I am trying to figure out how the Admin got their bus route times.
Using first stop and last stop average time compared to the map today.
Current WVHS010 inbound MW First stop is a 30 minute ride Last stop is a 10 minute ride avg time 20 minutes.
Admin claims an extra 10 minutes to the new MV.
Assuming stops don't change. Is this in the ballpark?

Is this in the ballpark? doubling or more the amount of lights and intersectins ( It is 5 lights to WVHS - crossing 1 major street) - I sure doubt it. Also people can stop pulling GPS's- one has to ride on the road-- I left my house at 6:00 PM on the dot this evening and had to drive to Illinois Basketball Academy on North Auora and Industrial - and it took 41 minutes -- and North Aurora was bumper to bumper. And no I did not take 59 - I used River and went across a grade level corssing before Ogden. So if I was going to MVHS it would have been over 50 minutes - this is real world - not some d**n computer print out. And while yes the roads have snow on them, it was not storming and roads here have snow on them in winter. Anyone who thinks we should be happy with that commute needs to drive it themselves. So if I had to get to the high school for anything urgent tonight after work - 50 - 55 minutes - oh yeah - sign me up. What a load

Is this in the ballpark? It depends on the time of day you are travelling. I can make it from MV to WV in 5 minutes if traffic gods are happy and all the lights are green at around 10 a.m.-3:00, but any time after 5:00 p.m., you may as well get out your audio book because it's gonna be a long drive. Did this last week and it took about 25 minutes. Rush hour sucks on Eola going south. However, northbound is not an issue. In the a.m. when the kids will be coming to school, traffic on Eola should still be on the light side. It starts to gum up around 7:30 a.m.

He would like to move toward all day kindergarten so that all students are reading by first grade. Barriers would be space and cost issues. He would also like to change the start times so that the high schools start later and the elementary schools start earlier. He would like to switch to a two tier busing system rather than the current three tier system. Addressing the air conditioning in the elementary school; it would take 4 years and approx. $1M per school; he would like to investigate other alternatives like better fans and ventilation. Finally he discussed parents expectations of their student’s skill sets when they graduated from 204- 1.) Literacy. 2.) Math 3.) Technology. 4.& 5.) Science/Social Studies. Dr. D. would like to see improvements in the technology hardware and software so that it is compatible and integrated with the curriculum. David Holm, Assistant Superintendent, Business discussed the district finances, which are in excellent shape. $9M excess for fiscal 2007; hoping for an increase in state aid for fiscal 2008; budget is available on the district website. Karla Zozulia discussed Sudexho and Laidlaw. Finally, there will be a middle school presentation for parents at Crone on October 17 about successful career planning for students "

I think some of the "extra" busses are coming from the elimination of the freshman center at WV. Current HS parents, correct me if I am wrong, but there are 2 rounds of busses for the HS's right now, 1 for freshman and 1 for upper classman. These 2 busses go through the same neighborhoods. No freshman center then no freshman busses, so extra busses available for less stops in the long commute areas.

Currently, Brookdale to WV is ~30 minutes. Proposed Brookdale to MV is 27 minutes, yet is less than half the distance...

Currently, Brookdale to WV is ~30 minutes. Proposed Brookdale to MV is 27 minutes, yet is less than half the distance... I agree with you that they look a bit funky because they have Brooks at 28 minutes and it is a mile away. I looked at the current inbound routes to Brooks (which is the closest comparable I've got), and I'd eyeball the average at about 15-20 minutes. I think the high school buses make less stops than the elementary buses, so I think they are messing with the bus numbers to get the average times to look comparable. Some of these buses have to be full though so it begs the question of where the extra buses come from. The thread with Dr. D's desire to switch to 2 tier bus schedule reminded me that part of his plan was to eliminate freshman center buses and have the regular HS bus stop/pick up at 2 destinations. Apparently, the costs didn't work out, so he's abandoned that plan, but since we are still eliminating a freshman center, we get half the buses from WV freed up with other buses already servicing the same routes. Just a thought . . .

Currently Brookdale has 4 buses going to the Green campus and 1 to the gold (not including rural brookdale). The last bus stop in the morning (the express bus) is a popular stop....saves about 15 minutes from the earliest stop.

Not really an express bus...just the last stop on the route.

Not really an express bus...just the last stop on the route. --------------- so students get dropped off by parents, or make their way to the last stop to catch the bus?
