Interesting thought but I'm not sure it'd work - transportation issues, lack of special-needs equipped building, etc.
I vote sell it and make some money. It is very expensive property to be sitting there under utilized.

It is very expensive property to be sitting there under utilized. I'm not sure if we would 'make' any money on it based on how much we've put into the site over time. At the very least, it would simply be 'converting' a hard asset into a liquid one. Also, once the property is gone, it's going to cost a whole lot more to just get the 'dirt' back again if it's ever needed (and even then it may never be available). As we've seen with BB, holding onto real estate can be a very good thing it is really doesn't need to be sold.

I disagree about Wheatland. The land is too valuable to use for storage, and it is not a good site for a school. Rt 59 is busy and the access from 103rd is very tight.

They have used it for years as a school and the parents were very reluctant to leave. Preschoolers will not be walking. I can't remember how many classes they have there, I would have to do some digging.

Please recognize the fact that the reason our SD has a district preschool is based on special needs preschoolers. Legally a SD must provide services beginning at age 3 for special needs kids. The extra preschool kids are simply add-ons. Keeping the land as an expensive preschool doesn't make a lot of sense. Now that we're moving on to all day Kg. maybe they could pare down the preschool keeping it at the HC building and then sell the Wheatland school property. It just seems to be an expensive tool-shed!

What's the ongoing monthly expense to keep it in its current state? What's the monthly cost to find functional equivalent space ? Unless someone wants to buy a school, doesn't the fact that it has to be demolished and removed (to become commercial) actually make the school worth $0.00 in a sale?

It would be a teardown for whoever bought the property, which lessens it's value. Now let's get this thread back on topic. Further discussion on Wheatland needs to go to a new thread please.

Back on topic of the Northern Site and St Johns, does anyone have any idea about what would be done about the thingy's and the doohickeys? Compared to all that, Walmart might not be a bad neighbor. I'd even take a prison.

It'd make a reall great Walmart. Gee, neato! At least the Walmart would bring some property tax relief. ETA: Those are some serious thingies and doohickeys.... I sure hope the data on the danger of those thingiiies are worthy...

Eagledad, your topical map forgets one of the most important doohickeys - the interchange to get on 88. In my opinion, that's one of the biggest drawbacks to that property. I'm with you I don't particularly like the power thingy or the industrial manufacturing doo hickeys. I'm not sure there's much that can be done about them! Can the SB honestly be considering this site .

Don't like power thingys and don't think it is a good idea to expose kids to them.
