I wish there were alternative sites, but from what I'm hearing it's AME. Done deal...
I've seen the study done on Macom for readings on the sub-station at 248. The readings are within very safe levels of exposure, in fact, my blow dryer emits more dangerous stuff. I'll post them if you'd like?
Looking at that google "map of doom" of AME that Eagledad posted makes me really concerned. I don't have anything to back up the safety of the sub station, industrial sites that are adjacent that produces plastic, underground gas mains... But, I have the data on macom...
Where can we get this data from for AME prior to the district selecting this site?
ETA: How can this site be considered the most viable for Metea? What the heck is the criteria the SB/district is using?
I'm thinking we'll never know.... That sucks!

Back on topic of the Northern Site and St Johns, does anyone have any idea about what would be done about the thingy's and the doohickeys? Compared to all that, Walmart might not be a bad neighbor. I'd even take a prison. PULEEEEEEZZZ!!!! I used to patrol those power thingys and dohickeys for the past 20+ years....there has NEVER been a problem with either. Both are actually farther away from AME site than they look from Google Earth.

That sub-station is the motherload. Drove by it yesterday, it's a monster.
I'm not saying it's not safe... just need the readings on what it emits...

Oh, but just think of the money we'll save!
Every site has stuff that sucks about it. BB just seemed to suck the least.

The further south "power thingy" are old mothballed peaker generators. Those Manufacturing Dohickies are on the other side of the EJ&E tracks.
You failed to show just south of the AME Site, the very nice residential neighborhood.

No real conclusive work done on the danger of EMFs. Both sites are potential hazards. It seems that the power thingy at Macom is closer but I would have to drive by the AME once again to make sure.

Wasn't there a candidate for the school board who swore that AME was not even an option due to an unwilling seller? I went back and read old threads and there were many posters here as well that claimed to have first hand knowledge that AME was NOT for sale. What information do any of those posters have about this now?

Again the closer (Further south) power thingy is an old peaker system. Only used during high demand (Summertime) otherwise no emissions. Acually I think once that Natual Gas Peaker plant came online further north on Eola Rd, ComEd discontinued it's use of it's peakers due to the expense.

Gatormom,
I have the data from Macom on the emf hazard. If you would like it... let me know in a PM.
It's pretty convincing from the standpoint of safeness on the sub-station worries.
Again... do I seem like someone that would let my children go to a school that was dangerous in terms of long time safety/health issues?
LOOK AT THE SIZE OF THE SUBSTATION AND INDUSTRIAL PARK AT AME? Eagledad's google view was a great visual. Do the same for the 248 site... The thingies and doohickeys and substationies.. are, in my opinion... more abundant and larger at AME.
Ask the same in terms of safety as you would from Macom site. Sorry, I have no data for AM. Ask the SB, but better hurry...
I think things are going to move quickly and you/I may lose the chance to inquire about the safety of the AME site in comparison to the Macom site.
ETA: If anyone would like the data on the 248 site in term of the EMF danger, please PM me.

Here is recent 2004 (I think) City of Batavia look into a new Com Ed 138 kV transmission line along Randall Road. One issue was a substation 350 ft from a school, ES I believe. They conclude it was safe. www.cityofbatavia.net/content/articlefiles/505-138_KV_Transmission%20Line_Health%20Risks.pdfOne tidbit in there is Illinois has no regulations on setbacks for schools. However, Batavia exceeded standards used in California and Wisconsin. The CA standards I think are those I posted in another thread on power hazards.

Where were the readings taken and what time period of the year and hours of the day?
Do you have the original raw data or 'massaged' data?

The further south "power thingy" are old mothballed peaker generators. Those Manufacturing Dohickies are on the other side of the EJ&E tracks. Otherwise known as jet fuel generators - high explosives. Thanks for reminding us of the EJ&E tracks which are looking at a quadrupling of freight trains PLUS the star line. Yeah, this place rocks!

Oh, but just think of the money we'll save! Every site has stuff that sucks about it. BB just seemed to suck the least. One thing that can be said about BB is that it doesn't suck. So, D204, I'm asking is it worth 2-4% of the project costs to "suck"? Not for me.

(when load is light) and they failed to say what load was running through the tested lines when they took the readings. *sigh*
