warning: long post to follow – maybe this could be considered for the Editorials section?
Who is CFO & what are their motives?
They clearly want the referendum to fail. But then what? From the current “stuff” on their site, they are suggesting:
1) That there really will never be any overcrowding at the HS or MS level, because "We expect the middle school peak enrollment to be 6,900 students and high school peak to be 9,200." and the current HSs currently have a capacity of "over 10,800". OK- so we don't need to build anything then, right? No. They only put this on their site to get people confused & worked up about capacities & peak enrollment.
2) Spend $15M to build an addition to NV. “(NVHS) main campus will exceed its capacity by 450 students in the 2011/2012 school year.”. So, they propose spending $15M of OUR taxes dollars (plus those horrible extra $ in interest) so that 450 NV kids don't have to go to WV. OK, so that clears up what one of their motives are.
3) Spend $11M to convert Peterson to an MS. So, wait, there's no capacity issues, but they want us to do this reconstruction to benefit the south? And part of the "solution" is to convert an ES to an MS, but won't the kids come from an ES first? Aren't they then robbing Peter to pay Paul? Are they thinking through their “solutions” AT ALL?
4) At one point they advocated building a new MS. What happened to that idea? Gone with the wind…
5) A solution still bandied about on their site is to move the 6th graders back to elementary school (thanks Christine Vickers for that great idea). Are they serious?
What "problem" are they really trying to solve, how do they propose solving it, and what is their full agenda?
They're using every possible attack against the referendum, taxes, boundaries, refinancing debt, the school board, the 3rd HS location, and even WV, spreading false & misleading information to the public to, at all cost, get the referendum to fail. What are they going to do for us (204) if it fails? They’re doing in the best interest of all of 204, right?
Please realize this: THEY ARE NOT ACCOUNTABLE TO ANYONE
We don’t know their names. We didn’t vote for them. We don’t know their credentials. We don’t know their motives.
They change their tune with the wind. Every few weeks, they have a new reason to vote no. Every few weeks, they have a new "solution".
They're bedfellows with some of Brookdale & the Eola corridor right now. What are they going to do for them ITRF? Get a new HS built in the north? Get new boundaries? What are they whispering is people's ears? Be careful, they’ll tell you whatever you want to hear.
They recently went to the TallGrass homeowners association meeting to jump on the 5A boundary flashpoint. Are they going to help keep Tallgrass at NV even ITRF? They can’t promise anything – they have NO authority, so all they can offer is empty promises.
Their WV top 10 list ( ipsd204.proboards76.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=school&thread=1141514722&page=1 ) shows that they have no respect for WV now, nor will they ever. They're not trying to help out those that do or will go to WV. All of their proposed "solutions" help out the south, and allow people to remain at NV, because we all know that WV is a god-forsaken school.
Their "solutions" cost money, and would cause our taxes to go up, too. Why is that OK? As their site puts it, “our tax rate is already too high”, right? The fact is that 204 has built at least 13 new schools (including NV), and added on to at least 8 other schools, all within the last 10 years – buildings cost money. 204 is highly regarded not only for its achievement, but also for its money management. They are taking steps to refinance in a way that is more in line with families that use the facilities paying for them. Sounds reasonable, right? No – no matter what the SB does, CFO will tell you why it’s bad or wrong for you – and why only CFO’s solutions are good for you.
They chastise the SB for changing course from the past SB's actions, trying to address an overcrowding problem that is clearly coming, yet they change their "problems" and their "solutions" frequently. Why is OK only for them to change their mind but not others? It’s not, and I’m sick of CFO’s holier-than-thou attitude.
CFO: Who are you and where are you? Why don’t you host an informational meeting to spread “the truth”. I’ve love to have an opportunity to attend an open forum meeting where you presented your side and people were allowed to ask you questions, refute your statistics, and possibly berate you along the way (as the SB has had to endure). But, I doubt that will happen.
CFO: What is it that you’re really trying to accomplish? Please tell us. I dare you.
