Yeah, they raised mine by 7200 :-(
Any idea how they came up with these?
I am filing a complaint and appealing. Unless I see evidence that everyone else is getting equally screwed, the notice sent only to me seems as though I am the only one affected and with no basis.
The only reason I was given was "Provide uniformity with similar properties."
All in all, it's a fairly pathetic amount of information, printed by a circa 1970 impact printer, telling me to buy a stupid newspaper to get the details. They need to do a bit better than this.

Did anyone else get new assessments in the mail? I did, they raised my value 10K .....Ouch!!! Received mine on Saturday and it was just under $10K here also. No explanation - Township assessors value up $7k and then another $3k for equalized assessed value. Maybe someone should pull them some zillow.com printouts to cover the last 4 months or so .....of course I am sure if the values go down they will lower our assessed value and taxes - ;-) "The only reason I was given was "Provide uniformity with similar properties" exactly the same wording as mine

Anyone have Warren Dixon's contact info (email or phone direct to him). I think I'll give him a call personally to share my thoughts. In a year when property values have stayed flat, bumping the assesments like this across the board does not add up.
It's lovely how the assessor jacked it halfway, then the county SOA tacked on another half. Almost like the two of them had a plan ;-)

I have calculated assessment percentage increases for several neighborhoods in dupage. The current year listed first and previous year in parentheses. This information comes from the Naperville township website. I took a few random homes from each neighborhood to come up with the percentage increase. westwind 6.7 (3.8), countryside 7.7 (3.8), three farms 6.7 (3.8), longwood 4.65 (11), brookdale 4.65 (9), downtown 12.85 (11-14), brushhill 12.85 (3.8), willoway 8.75 (11), cress creek 7.7 (9), century farms 8.75 (11).

What frosts me more is the County is crying super poormouth that they are losing their 15million water commission money after this year.....thay had 5 years to plan for it. Claim they have been reducing tax rates for the past 10 years....Now I know how they say that....it's because they have been goosing up the assessments.
Due to the loss of funds they had to cut a lot from all departments .....No one working for the County is getting a cost of living increase this year, but they've raised our Heathcare by about 10%. Oh and BTW the County Board members did vote themselves a raise....They make over 48k for a part time job....not too shabby. Our County Board Chairman (Shillerstrom) is a Naperville resident. is running unopposed. I can't bring myself to vote for him...I'd rather leave that vote blank.
I had to vent....thanks for listening......

Would this mean that the SD is getting more money than expected?

Would this mean that the SD is getting more money than expected? I dunno.....probably...whould Steve Holm know? I wouldn't hold me to this, but I believe that the SD plans for increased assessments. I think there's an average home appreciation that is estimated. I got my notice as well. I only peeked at it but it looks like I went up somewhere around 7K or 8K, maybe a little more.

I could be totally off base here but....you are all moaning about your increase in assessments. Isn't the Brach Brodie Property in DuPage County? Well, an increase in your assement means an increase in theirs as well - so would not the cost of the property go up as well-meaning more$$$ the district would have to pay???

Farmland is assessed differently (unimproved property) and if and when the SD get the property it becomes exempt.

Honestly, where is the logic on that. Farmland is taxed cheaper than developed land. Also, the price of land is determined when the condemnation is filed.

Assesments rarely reflect an accurate value (appraisal) of a property as we all know. For example, we are "supposed" to be assesed at 1/3 value. Multiply your assesment. by 3, would you sell me your house for that? I doubt it. Rather assesment are more of a complicated, often political numbers game used to adjust taxes. But yes, the price of the BB property keeps going up over time, that is why the quick take to stop the CFO, er BB lawyers stall tactics is warranted.

I think it pays to have access to tax records. Real Estate agents have that kind of information at their finger tips accessed by address or really any search criteria, but last time I looked up tax records on the county site, I had to have a PIN.
Haven't home prices dipped since the end of the boom in 2005? Shouldn't assesments go down? I've never seen a tax assesment go down without a fight, but if a market dips or stalls shouldn't the assesment either fall or stay the same?
