Was able to take in the WVHS volleyball match at Oswego East last night ( a 2 game victory ) as my daughter and I went to watch a friend of hers who plays for OE freshman team.
Had forgotten how much fun the matches and atmosphere are in my few years away - and I have to comment and say, what a positive atmosphere has been created around this team by their new coach ( Kritsen Stuart) - a local girl, this year. You could just sense it from the girls and I saw it in the professional way the team was handled during the match. In talking to a few parents ( one who has had a girl on the team very year for the last 10 - and I knew from my last go around) - they feel the same way also.
I truly believe that this team will return to the level they were at 8-10 year ago, when they were always a force in the area.
Would like to see more support out there for them ( although I understand the match the day before @ Joliet Catholic was well attended by Warrior supporters ) --
Good luck Warriors, I hope the season is excellent !

FWIW I think they will have a great season too now that a certain Head coach is no longer there.

What was wrong with the other head coach? Did he or she cause problems?

What was wrong with the other head coach? Did he or she cause problems? I'd rather not go into on the board ( would be glad to give an earful in person to anyone ) - but suffice it to say the atmosphere, was in my opinion, and many peoples opinion, toxic for quite a while - but that situation is water under the bridge after their resignation/removal whatever, so I am hoping to turn the page. I just want to be happy the program will be getting the professionalism and skills they deserve.

Waubonsie volleyball shows promise Early in season, Waubonsie volleyball program has showed much promise September 13, 2007 BY GREG BURKS Special to the Beacon News
Several questions remain for area volleyball teams early in the season.
But that's not necessarily a bad thing.
At Waubonsie Valley, the biggest question is how good the Warriors can be. Waubonsie returns quite a bit of experience from last year's sectional final squad, but a new group with a new coach is hoping for more.
"I've talked to several seniors, and they all have the same goal," said first year coach Kristen Stuart.
"They want to continue to build the program."
The table was set in 2006 when the Warriors finished 23-14 overall and won a regional title for the first time since 1999. They beat Joliet in the sectional semifinals before falling to Joliet Catholic in the sectional title match.
Four seniors -- Joslyn Drew (Outside Hitter), Kassie Kadera (Setter), Katrina Boryc (Libero), and Cindy Cavanaugh (Middle Hitter)--each saw considerable playing time a year ago. Juniors Kari Galen and Alana Jones, along with sophomore Nicole Salmon, also saw time with the varsity last season.
"They did lose two starters (All-Area selections Rachel Boryc and Laura Stokowski)," said Stuart. "But we return pretty much the rest of the team. We have a couple players who have really improved, and we're counting on them to step in."
The Warriors may have a new coach, but don't be fooled by that. Stuart prepped at Naperville Central where she played on the Redhawks' 1998 team that won 41 straight matches before falling to Sandburg in the state title game. Naperville Central finished 41-1 that season and 31-5-2 her junior year.
Stuart continued her career at Southern Methodist University in Dallas before coming home to play her final two years at North Central College in Naperville. She has also coached for the Naperville Volleyball Club, which has had several team members from Waubonsie in the past.
"I followed (Waubonsie) a little bit last year, but I didn't see any games," said Stuart. "A couple of girls from the club team I coach played for them."
Needless to say, the coach knows a little about quality volleyball and the effort that goes into it.
"They work hard," said Stuart about her team. "They came in shape, and they're always asking to stay (after practice) for extra reps."
Only time will tell if the Warriors can duplicate, or even surpass, last year's postseason run. A lot depends on who they match up against. Waubonsie went to Minooka for last year's sectional, avoiding the always tough DuPage Valley and West Suburban Conference schools.
"There's some great teams in the area," said Stuart.
"And a lot of them are from larger schools like us."

Congratulations to Neuqua Valley for winning this Weekends' Warrior Blast VB tournament and toe Waubonsie for finishing third. The Warriors went 3 games with Downers Grove North coming up 2 points short of making this an all 204 finals - which would have been ever better !
( and congratulatios to the Beacon for being the only local paper I could find the scores in on-line -- Sun /Herald - are you listening ?
Rosary tops Waubonsie for third place
September 23, 2007 BY GREG BURKS Special to the Beacon News AURORA -- Rosary and Waubonsie Valley both missed playing for the championship at the Warrior Blast Volleyball Tournament on Saturday by suffering tough, three-game defeats in the semifinals.
It was Rosary, however, that bounced back in the third-place game, topping Waubonsie 25-21, 25-23.
Recognizable 12 girls were named to the
all-tournament team,
including the following from
area schools ...
Christine Hartman, Rosary
Lindsey Weber, Rosary
Joslyn Drew, Waubonsie Valley
Kristina Hefferan, Yorkville
Neuqua Valley topped Downers Grove North in two games to win the tournament championship.
In the third place game, Rosary (14-4 overall) opened up a 10-3 lead in game one, but a six-point Waubonsie run with Katrina Boryc serving made it 10-9. The Warriors hung around and eventually took a 19-18 lead after an Alana Jones kill and a Rosary passing error.
But Rosary finished game one with a 7-2 run to earn the 25-21 win. Kelly Hogan had two kills late in the match to finish the game.
Rosary opened up leads of 14-6 and 17-9 in game two and appeared to have the match in hand. But Waubonsie (13-5) came all the way back and eventually tied the game at 23-23 on a Nicole Salmon kill. Rosary scored the final two points when Lindsey Weber hit off a Waubonsie block and Karen Matic had a tip that went for a kill.
"We were up 17-9, and the next thing you know it's 22-20," said Rosary coach Lisa Kasper. "Then it's 23-23. That game summed up the last two weeks for us. It's been a roller-coaster ride."
Rosary and Waubonsie Valley both finished 3-2 in the 16-team tournament played at Waubonsie Valley High School on Friday and Saturday. The Warriors finished 3-0 during Friday pool play, beating Oswego, Plainfield South and Bolingbrook. Rosary slipped in three games against St. Ignatius on Friday but rebounded to beat Hinsdale South and Yorkville.
On Saturday, Waubonsie beat Downers Grove North 25-22 in game one of their semifinal, but the Trojans came back to take game two 25-16. Downers North took game three 25-23.
"I was really happy with the effort against Downers North," said Waubonsie coach Kristen Stuart. "In games like that, when it's point for point, one mistake here or there can be the game."
Rosary took game two of their semifinal match against Neuqua Valley 25-22, after losing game one 25-17. The Wildcats held on to win the decisive third game 25-22.
"We really did not have the tournament we wanted to have this weekend," Kasper said. "We struggled against (St. Ignatius) and did not play very well against Neuqua in the first or third games."
Bronze Division -- Batavia, Oswego and Yorkville all finished 1-2 during Friday's pool play, relegating each team to the bronze division on Saturday.
Batavia topped Oswego 25-14, 25-19 in one bronze semifinal, while Yorkville fell to Plainfield Central 25-20, 25-12. The Foxes went on to beat Oswego 25-19, 25-13 for 11th place. Batavia finished 10th overall after a 21-25, 25-23, 25-14 loss to Plainfield Central.

The UE conference is up for grabs with WV ( and NV) looking to unseat St Charles North who has won the last 3 years -- hopefully we will bring this back to 204 !
(p.s. daughter was part of WV last UE championship team - so I remember it well ! ) New coach doing an excellent job returning this program to where it belongs !
Waubonsie hands SCN its 1st UEC loss By Stan Goff | Daily Herald CorrespondentContact writerPublished: 10/10/2007 12:01 AMSend To:
A quick look around the Waubonsie Valley gymnasium Tuesday revealed plenty of signs that it was senior night for the Warriors.
But after knocking off the previously unbeaten Upstate Eight Conference leaders from St. Charles North, some Warriors players were looking at more than just balloons, signs and special T-shirts. A glance up at the school's banners shows that Waubonsie Valley has not won a UEC title in girls volleyball since 1996.
Tuesday's impressive 25-19, 25-21 win drew the Warriors even with the visiting Stars at 8-1 in conference play with another big date Thursday, when the Warriors play at St. Charles East, which also entered Tuesday's action with one loss in the UEC.
"We were really pumped up because we needed this for conference and we wanted to do it for the seniors too," said Kari Galen, who had 5 blocks on Tuesday and a kill that ended Game 1. "If we play as hard as we did tonight, we can definitely beat them (Saints) Thursday. It's been a while since we won conference and it's definitely a goal of ours."
St. Charles North, which has won the UEC the last three years, could have knocked the Warriors out of contention. Instead they lost in a match that was Waubonsie's best effort so far this season. The Warriors (20-7) shined on defense, served well and outside hitter Joslyn Drew had another big night with 10 kills.
"I'm pretty excited," Waubonsie Valley coach Kristen Stuart said. "They've been pumped up for this game for a week. And being senior night helped."
North Stars coach Lindsay Trudell was disappointed with her team's play in such a big match, but credited the Warriors' defense with causing some of her team's woes on this night.
"That resembled nothing of what my team is capable of doing," she said of her 18-9 squad. "Waubonsie just dug us out of the gym. They completely took us out of our system. What a letdown."
With 6-foot-2 Gretchen Gieser and 6-1 Lindsay Williams playing the middle, the North Stars usually create matchup problems for opponents. But the Warriors countered with strong blocking and nonstop ball-hawking.
"We came in with the mentality that we needed this to get first in conference," said Katrina Boryc, who along with Stephanie Demos led the Warriors with 5 digs apiece. "It's always frustrating when the team on the other side is digging you. It's a strong point for us."
With Demos providing strong serves, the Warriors jumped ahead in the opener 13-6 following a kill by Drew. But St. Charles North battled back and trailed just 19-18 following a kill by Rachel Huber. But a missed serve and a hitting error enabled the Warriors to close out the game with a 6-1 run.
In Game 2 the Warriors went up 19-12 following a winner from Alana Jones before the North Stars closed the gap to 22-20 only to have the hosts complete the sweep as a big dig by Taylor Gillhouse on match point set up Nicole Salmon's match-ending spike.
