Great post! And add to that ...those that wanted out of WVHS so badly are not allowed to come back! Be careful what you wish for! Go Warriors! Fence and Slp, Great thoughts!!! Go Warriors! ETA: My new goal is to get the Watts area assigned to WVHS as they were totally shafted and ignored during the boundary decision. The other goal I have (and it's not new) is to OUST the incumbents on the school board. Sayonara suckers!!!! a great big bear hug out for that sentiment - we'd love to be there.

ETA: My new goal is to get the Watts area assigned to WVHS as they were totally shafted and ignored during the boundary decision. The other goal I have (and it's not new) is to OUST the incumbents on the school board. Sayonara suckers!!!! In the "No area goes to the farthest high school" boundary proposal submitted in February, we were there together; both of us going to the 2nd furthest school not the first (NV for each of our areas). I would love to see the district run the actual cost numbers from Laidlaw on their boundaries versus that one. While I know and fully understand that the first choice would have been to stay at NV (your original school), there was no other way with the numbers to make the rule hold true 100% across the board.. that no area attends the furthest school. The really sad part about it is that while My desire to stay at WVHS is deemed as a 'good thing' and even an admirable thing, your desire to stay at your original school (the same desire I have) is deemed and portrayed in the most vilified smear-campaign way I have ever witnessed. Same desire, handled and portrayed by others in two entirely different ways. To say that wrongful portrayal was pathetically sad is an understatement. We're both parents who wanted the same root thing yet we are perceived in opposite ways. I had hoped D204 as a whole was better than that. I feel you will never get an apology for that from those that said/did it, so I will say it from one human being to another and for the fact that you deserve one: I'm sorry that you and your area were treated that way.

I feel you will never get an apology for that from those that said/did it, so I will say it from one human being to another and for the fact that you deserve one: I'm sorry that you and your area were treated that way. ditto for me... I think the reason Arch and I ( and others here from Watts ) view your desire to stay at NVHS - after you and others went to great lengths to explain it is centered around this thought: People like Arch and I and JB and D204mom etc NEVER viewed WVHS as less of a school - or school experience than NVHS. Therefore there is not any jealousy over who gets to stay where, we view the desire to stay at your 'home' school the same way. ( And before any goofs jump in to send you to the archives - most of us admit we might not have always understood that - but it's amazing when you actually get to know people, and listen to them, how understanding changes. ) It is no more ' noble' to want to stay at WVHS than to want to stay at NVHS -- except for those with a warped sense of what WVHS is. It turns out that some members of our SB seem to be convinced WVHS was less of an experience and needs to be re engineered in order to accomplish that. I think their view is wrong and have made that clear to each of them. .My 03 graduate had many friends at both schools and to this day stlll prefers WVHS. Arch has a junior there now and feels the same way. HOWEVER - there is another group who seem to badly want out - for the shiny new school, and I say let them go them. Good day to them - however do not remove people who do not want to go. I can guarantee you in my 19 years here in Watts, I have NEVER heard one person refer to NVHS as the Taj Mahal - that can't be said for some others ( and guess what we paid for it too ) . Even though it was the closest school to our home also, we already had a 'home' school and were more than happy with it. The one gripe I had, and it was addressed by HC is I always thought WVHS deserved more of a share of certain funds for improvements etc - since the school was 25 years olf at the time and naturally needed more work to maintain than a 5 year old school- that is just common sense - nothing more. The improvements done at WVHS were wonderful and appreciated. Each school has separate things to be proud of - I beliee the auditorium at WVHS is 2nd to none, and having a planetarium on campus - yah ! Yet those who constantly whine about inequities seem to forget about those things. The set of of the main gym I also prefer, and on pacl the house nights was raucous. But it appears to be easier to whine and cry about features at NV that are better - and they are there. But doesn't that even things out and make each school unique. I truly wish you were able to stay where you wanted also - but barring that would have been proud to attend WVHS with you. It appears Watts has no place - as MV will always be viewed as the school for the north - which we are not. Brooks / Brookdale especially wanted this school badly - we prefer where we are today. I hope the Sb will look at this situation, but I don't think it will even cross their minds....which I find sad. YTou will find the school wonderful ( though not your 'home' school and I udnerstand that - but those who wanted out so badly for a new school - will not be there when you arrive.

Thanks Dr. Who & Arch. These were great posts. Its people like you guys that really make it easier for everyone in the district to make the change, you've both had great things to say about WV and have never waivered from that. If that had been the stance of the SB and reaction from other residents from the beginning, I think that things would be much different. I know, takes patience at first when people are upset, but I think it would have been worth it. I've never been against going to WV. I totally get it. But I was certainly not surprised by people who had issues with it. It was because they'd heard things, had probably never been there, and had no idea what to expect. Change is not easy for anyone, and people need to be given information and good communication and patience. None of those things were provided. And others that went to WV immediately went on the defensive and didn't help matters either. Even when they were trying to give support to their school, it was always coming from a defensive sort of place. So you guys have a really helpful perspective for those that need to make a transition in a few years - maybe you can become consultants for the district (you could offset your Benet tuition!). I hope that before the opening, the tweaks are made to the boundaries to move MW where it rightfully belongs. I know it won't affect you personally but it is the right thing to do, and maybe you won't throw out your green and gold! I'm excited because I really believe that once all the new WV attendees get used to the idea, we will accept nothing less than making WV the best, and that is going to be a very satisfying experience in many ways

Let's see - Spring '09 SB elections, 4 new seats, enough time to do an actual cost analysis with real data. Metea open in Fall '09 (maybe). Plenty of time for new boundaries. Just to be on the safe side, Arch, Doc, and I will keep our proposal handy. You may just get that wish Macy.

That is exactly why I tried to stay away from the south bashing and remained on the blue board through all of this. I don't want to leave WV as much as you didn't want to leave NV. Though I was against the lawsuit, I understood TGs position and I too am sorry for the way your area (and the Watts area) were treated. As for Watts, well, though I stand by my previous statements about being willing to go to MV, frankly I hope Steck gets to stay at WV. I don't know what else to say about that. Sorry, Arch and Doc.
