Please don't think I am criticizing anyone for feeling pinched by change, change is indeed difficult. But we have a new principal at NVHS this year and I didn't know his name until this spring and, in fact, I got to hear him speak for the first time last night at the Indian Prairie Scholar Awards ceremony. And I thought his remarks were terrific. But is that really what you're anxious about? Who the principal is going to be at Fischer? Are your anxieties really going to be reduced by a 30 minute tour of the building? I am not minimizing anyone's hardship in all this. I share all those same anxieties. But they will not be calmed until my kid is settled and happy in his new school (I hope). I agree there are two issues. I'm not anxious about who the principal will be, specifically, as much as I am concerned that we are opening a new school with new staff. Yes, I know the school will pull staff from all over, but there will be new hires. I'd like it to get started and to be informed of the process. Same goes for the new PTA. I couldn't care less about a building tour. On the other issue, I don't understand why across the board it is such a difficult problem for people that we would ask the schools and staff to be sensitive to the changes that will occur. Again, why would anyone object to this? I actually don't feel that strongly as I may have sounded about either issue, but when my post on green was treated as if I was foolish for caring and should just trust the district, I dug in my heels. Frankly, I don't know why anyone would object to the SD being proactive and getting the ball rolling sooner rather than later, but I'll just have to not get it, I guess. It is only natural to ask all of the questions we are all asking and no one should reprimand or second guess our concerns. This board has never, IMO, been the "thought police" and I am glad to see that continuing to be the case here. researching raised some valid points. Does anyone have any idea as to what has to be done by when for MV to open in Fall 2009? I find it so hard to believe that building will be ready for kids in less than a year. I'm trying to think positive but I am also realistic . In addition, if numbers would permit I believe the district should consider allowing families with two or more children in two different high schools to remain at one.

I hope no one feels I was trivializing their concerns. I share LOTS of those concerns. And I agree that some, like to pretend the SD/SB have done such a great job up til now there's no reason for concern... NOT!!
I'm just not quite sure I know what I need to feel better about the changes that will be happening in my own household. Options, yes , I would agree that if the numbers permit it and I think they probably do, that options would be a good thing. At least families could regain a sense of some control, even if their choice is change.
No I don't think there is anything wrong with asking for information. I guess a better way for me to question the remarks is, what would really make those anticipating major changes feel better about what lies ahead?

IMO. can the school open on time. I think the SB/SD has already said the building will be incomplete.
So, who defines complete "enough" to open? Well, that would seem to fall on the SD/SB. If they had stuck with BB they would've had an additional eight months time to complete the construction (October 07 vs May 08). In the land recommendation they claimed that both BB and AME could be ready in 2009. That was, obviously, after they had wasted 5 months of chasing AME.
Then they said they would phase the building in...no auditorium, no gym, no athletic fields. Now from what I understand two of the four classrooom wings will not be ready.
What are in those wings?
How difficult would it be to open with no mechanical arts? no facs? no science labs? no commons? I don't know. It seems to me they left a very wide latitude for themselves to define complete "enough".
At what point would parents demand a more finished school and would anyone listen to them? I think those questions were asked back in October of 07 and no one listened then.

I am curious where the administration of the current WVHS Gold building will go. Will they remain where they are and become middle school adminstrators or move over to the main building but work in the freshman center?
I agree with smom, some of these details need to be announced. I know Rudy Keller is well liked and people probably want to know what's going on - maybe they have said and I just missed it - but we seem to be lacking some important pieces of the puzzle with regard to info.

Funny isn't it that some of the people who bitched on this very board about possibly opening MV-BB when there was still some construction that may need to go on-are now willing to open 'anything' @ AME. Suddenly what was unacceptable -possibly unsafe, and a less than 100% learning environment changes depending on location. I agree with some of the statements here before - this site will open Fall 2009 regardless - I don't believe there is a bar they could fall under where they would not open it. And if 2 wings of classrooms aren't open either - the mantra from certain groups will just be " that's why we only have 2 classes here to start "

I'd bet there are a great many things that could keep it from opening but I also believe some will insist otherwise, and the true insanity of it all will point to itself.

According to a post on green, Jim Schmid will be visiting Granger next week and speaking with the 8th graders who will be attending MV.
Would parents of 8th graders at Scullen be interested in having the Principal of WV do the same for the 8th graders at some point this year? I am curious as to how people feel about this and if they think the Scullen 8th graders situation is different than those from Granger.
