Anyone have any first day or first week enrollment figures for the district?

Nope, but you're right, we should see them soon. They would be good to see and someone definitely has them right now. Let's see if we can scrounge them up. I'll do some checking, please do the same. Maybe we could play "price is right" on grade 1 too (K is unreliable due to trending of many parents to do private all-day-K in my opinion)

DPC, from what I've heard from second-hand sources, in the first week, apparently enrollment was up about 200 from last year overall (but down in elementary). I guess the numbers haven't been released yet because they wait until 30 days after opening because enrollments tend to continue to rise for the first month (that was a surprise to me).
BTW dpc, I was wondering, do you still have the CFO predictions for our 2006 and 2007 tax bills and enrollment projections handy?

I know that at the Freshman Parent Meeting at WVGold Campus that was held August 15, Principal Schmid said that the enrollment for the Freshman campus was at 980. IIRC, the senior class of 2007 graduated around 780/790 at WV.

I too am surprised about the increase in enrollments in the first 30 days. So I guess we have to wait a few more weeks. I don't have the CFO predictions handy. With a little digging I might be able to find them in which case I will post here.

Using last year's number,
the senior class was 1769 8th grade 2170 5th grade 2292
They are still two sub 2000 classes , this years Jr and seniors.
Over the next four years (starting this year), the HSs will pick up an extra 1265 students.

According to the Scullen Pricipal's letter, in the PTSA newsletter (http://www.ipsd.org/Uploads/news_15794_1.pdf), Scullen is at 1460, up 85 students from last year (6%).
The school capacity is 1200, so it is now operating at 22% above capacity.
If I'm not mistaken, these students will be going to high school.

Because for better or worse, it is part of the capacity at the school even if temporary. So maybe the capacity should be restated 1200+ portables = total

Why would anyone not?? They have the CAPACITY to house our students and they do everyday. I would venture to say that Scullen capacity is significantly lower than 22%.

Let's say there are 4 class rooms in the portable with 30 spots each, the school is at 110% "capacity".
But the portables do not increase lunch room size, the number of bathrooms.....
Capacity is not a one seat for one student number.

I think once you start factoring portables into capacity numbers, you have inherently given up on them being temporary.
I don't think Scullen is the issue. I think that getting MVHS in place and WVHS Gold converted to a MS are the real issues.
I was just fulfillng the request for enrollment numbers with the little I have seen.

If you put a port- a- potty in your back yard- does that increase the square footage of your house ? Would you then add another bathroom to the MLS. Let's not be silly here -- portables are TEMPORARY and by law have to be replaced every 5 years -- why would they be included ? Scullen itself is 22% over capaciity
