This does not appear to be the first change order to be approved "after the fact". A huge no-no in any construction contract. And yes please explain the "emergency" !! My understanding is that the emergency is the time delay required for re-bidding the project. Normally, re-bidding is required for a 10% over-run. If an emergency is declared, we can circumvent that, and protect the project timeline.

B. Purchase Recommendation - Change Orders for MVHS (This item recommends the Board of Education approve Change Order Items A through KK for Metea Valley High School in the amount of $160,601.00, as presented) (Policy No.: 460.08)
Have to be close if not over $2million dollar mark and the closer we get the more these will be installed prior to being approved and given verbal "OK do it". Its incredible the lack of details. Since they used all their pencils for the boundary diagrams maybe we can sharpen a few crayons for them. Do the Crayola boxes still have the built-in sharpeners ?

Its incredible the lack of details. Since they used all their pencils for the boundary diagrams maybe we can sharpen a few crayons for them. Do the Crayola boxes still have the built-in sharpeners ? They do, but while we collected enough money to get them, we bought the cheaper Rose-Art ones... and now that we find out those won't work we have to hit you up for more money to buy the Crayolas like we originally said we were going to do. Don't worry though, if you take a cash advance on your Credit Card for double the amount, you can stick the other half in a savings account and earn interest on it. Now, count that interest as income and pat yourself on the back for having extra money. When the CC sends the bill, just hand it to your neighbor. Welcome to 204.

Another one coming up for approval 5/18/09: this one is for $600KNot to worry - nothing a few more bond premiums won't cover, and don't forget the $8 Million they kept on the side by playing bond premium games the first time around. "Look closely... nothing up the sleeve". Behold the magic as our District tuns $124MM into 160MM!!!

And another. Funny thing that every single one of the change orders which far exceeded anyone predictions started off like this "This was due to unforeseen changes of blah, blah, blah "
I will admit that the detail is the best we've seen, but unforeseen changes means our Project Manager is extremely ineffective and is apparently approving all these change orders. Why doesn't the architect pitch in ? Whose sig was on the final approval ? Lets just take it out of their collective salary and I bet they would be pushing back a lot more. Now if these are changes because of scope increase / creep then the contractor is entitled. I find it hard to believe that is the case with all of them. And BTW Mr. Project Manager they are supposed to be getting approval PRIOR to completing the work. Not afterward. We need this detail for all the change orders. Although I lost track I'm not sure exactly where that # sits now. I'm guessing in the $3m + range with lots more construction to go.
The following is a summary of the Metea Valley High School construction change orders that are being recommended for board approval at the October 19th school board meeting. The total amount requested for items A through MM is $177,762.00.

Ok, so when does $211,530 = $44,202? Only in 204 math! I looked at the change orders submitted and approved dated January 18, 2010 for Metea (found on BoardDocs for January SB meeting). The amount approved was for $44,202 but the total amount included totalled $211,530. Can anyone explain what the discrepancy is? Are we really only paying $44,202 the approved amount? I'd like to think our construction manager finally figured out to stand up and negotiate some of these change orders but I'm wondering if that isn't giving him too much credit . Here are some of the most fascinating change orders: $26,790 Allied Landscaping changes to baseball/softball infield design due to soil conditions after the bid$34,694 Allied Landscaping additions to landscaping that were required due to soil conditions after the bid$5,542 Abbey Paving changes to shot put throwing sector design details after bid $10,456 Applied Controls unforeseen charges for overtime work required to maintain construction schedule$1719 Divane Brothers Electrical unforeseen changes requested by DuPage County Health Department to lighting system design details after the bid$70,664 Superior Floor Covering deletions to flooring scope Anyone have any idea what the total amount is of change orders for Metea? When we have teachers losing their jobs I can't help but find it offensive to be spending $5500 for a shot put area or $27,000 for a baseball/softball design problem due to soil conditions. Thoughts?

What is the amount of change orders that have been approved so far? Wasn't there supposedly a few million (you know chump change) built into the budget? Judging by what's been submitted and approved, I'd think we're way over budget. But that's no surprise, is it?
