Nothing yet... If CV were here I'd fly her a paper airplane with a note scribbled on it... but she's absent and so are 2 others...

Oh, that's great, let's make a decision like All-Day K on 2 days notice and with 4 board members.

Ya, it seems like a railroad job. Not knocking the idea, but some of the 'claims' seem a bit far fetched about the cost/benefits.

Lemme guess, the other 2 missing are Glawe and Stephens?
Don't get me wrong, Im all for all day K, just not this way right now.
And I'll be a little ticked if they trot out a windfall from the state that supports it that they could have had this year also.

Oh, this is definitely a railroad job to me. Apparently from what I am hearing, the students disparately need this. Somehow the fact that we have students in PA and AP and honors courses now with their academic excellence having gone through D204 with half day K programs in the past has been forgotten. I give JC some credit for firing back some excellent questions to the Admin staff who claim this is such a great plan that only a plan A is needed.. they don't need a plan B... I nuts you not... JC is also bringing up over and over the space issue, but the admin staff is fluffing it off like it's no big deal. Yes, the extra revenue from the state (after a year of operating this, due to how the state aid works a year retro) has also been shown to make this endeavor operate in the black. Houston, we have another problem.

Apparently, Art on a cart isn't a problem and 35 in a class is not a problem either.

" been shown to make this endeavor operate in the black"
Will it generate enough money to build another elementary school?
I would prefer smaller classes to all day kindergarten.

November 12, 2007 204: All-day kindergarten Looks like starting next year parents will be able to take advantage of all-day kindergarten in District 204. This $7 million investment seems like a welcome development for parents, kids and the district. For families where both parents work, it certainly eases the strain on where to put their little ones; for the kids, it's a good way to introduce them to school and, let's face it, kindergarten is fun so having them in all day is no big deal; for the district it would seem that all-day kindergarten would give them a better handle on enrollment figures for the next year which would certainly help in facilities preparation and things of that nature. A generation or so ago all-day kindergarten seemed to be the norm across the country and it's good to see that it's coming back. The question is - why just Dist. 204? What about Dist. 203? It certainly seems to have the money to fund the all-day program. And shouldn't it be made available to all Naperville families, not just the ones in 204?

The Sun editors seem tom think that the all day babysitting is nice. But is that really a priority right now?

Are most people's kids ready to go to school all day at age 5?
Mine most definately were not. They even had a rough adjustment to all day first grade!

I'm an advocate of all day kindergarten, but this just seems like a bad time to implement it. We should resolve the MV crisis first. I agree. Trust of the sb and admin is at an all time low. Bad time to ask for us to 'trust me - it'll all work out we promise!'

"The $7M is a welcome investment..", but an investment of $17M in the new HS is armegeddon?

7 Million - is that per year? If so, what were the projected operating costs of the 3rd high school anually?
rew, I agree. I'm a proponent of all day K. but frankly I'd rather invest the 7MM in MV and move on - now.
