Okay the following was just received - about the boundaries being passed. WasI asleep at the switch of was Longwood moving to Granger discussed in some other meeting ? Look at the middle school map - the part of Cowlishaw that went to Granger is marked at Hill and all of Longwood to Granger. !! Where this is very interesting is consider this split: The just moved 30 kids from Longwood to May Watts - and the kids will have to make that ugly commute every day for 6 years. What will their reward be ? Not going to MS with ANY of their land neighbors so the first time they will go to school with kids across the street (North Aurora ) will notbe High School. Really, did we all miss this ? Was this done in some other session ? -------------------------------------------------------------------------- At Tuesday night's meeting, the board of education approved new boundaries for the elementary, middle, and high schools. The new elementary boundaries begin with the 2008-09 school year, while the middle and high school boundaries start in 2009-10. Fifth graders and eighth graders will have the option of finishing at their current school the first year of the new boundaries; however, parents will need to provide transportation. High school students who will move to a new school will not have the option of staying at their existing school. Metea Valley High School will open with freshman and sophomore students in 2009. The new boundary maps are available online at www.ipsd.org/Uploads/news_17702_1.pdf---------------------------------------------------------------------------- School District 204 www.ipsd.org780 Shoreline Drive Aurora, IL 60504 USA

Gee, we wonder why people are so mad. This is such a sad time for district 204. Look what a rush job gets you. btw I checked the release from last week - and sure enough it was changed on there also- I guess they felt they did not need to announce it-- after all - no SB member lives there. This will likely be news to some there... also besidesthe kids they moved all the way to Watts - they also moved kids to Brookdale - 34 more so that makes 64 kids from the Longwood area who will now go to a different ES and MS than their neighbors -- real nice ! DID ANYONE SEE THIS ? IS ANYONE FROM LONGWOOD HERE - WERE YOU AWARE ?

What is wrong with Granger?...I thought Hill was overcrowded? Not the point at all parent -- nothing wrong with Granger - ( the principal there is a friend )- Here's the question- did you know they were moving ? If you were a family there - or a kid there with friends does this not count as yet another change ? No one I have talked to yet was aware of this -- It didn't deserve to at least get a mention instead of trying to fly it under the radar ? As far as crowding we'll have to look and see -- remember LW is very small and they sent 34 kids to Brookdale ( splitting them from their community) and 30 more to Watts ( splitting them even further from their community ) - and Cowlishaw - Granger satellitemoving to Hill os 202 more - and then Cowlishaw picked up 36 more from McCarty - now going to Hill thats 302 kids Maybe everyone should go over the map because obviously not all changes were 'announced' Two points -- why wasn't anyone told ? Why split the LW community 3 ways -- now like the Hill community in 4 locations -- I thought we were looking for contiguous boundaries ? Was that not one of the objectives ?

Looking at that map just gives me a big headache. They knew someone out there would catch this so this did this real fast.
Doc, these are good questions. I hope you emailed the SB about them. There is no excuse to chop up communities like they are doing. Poor OW and now poor Longwood.

I guess I read it, but it did not sink in. I do have a few co-workers who live in Longwood, I'll ask them what they think of it.

We called one of my daughters friends in LW ( also leaving the district as her parents have concerns over safety of the site) - and they were unaware of the switch to Granger....for their area. This is in no way a Granger comment - it's a comment on what seems to be less than forthrightness in changes made --

Look at Watts on the map now ( dark blue )-- it looks like a jigsaw puzzle after you've sorted the pieces but haven't put them together yet.

I didn't catch this when I read the map earlier, and my 6th grader at Hill wasn't aware (but then again, they haven't been communicated anything about the new boundaries). However...even on the summary on the front page, they show Longwood going to Granger. Wow. Good for Hill overcrowding, but I'd like to see the final numbers of how crowded it makes Granger...

Dr - a large number of ESs changed their MS assignment - this was all in the boundar document released last week - I don't recall each & every ES to MS assignment being called out - am I missing something?

What's missing is I am saying many people affected by this were unaware - call it a commnications problem - call it a lack of uninvolvement problem - anything one likes- but I'm telling you it's news to people involved, not just me

I was thinking about this last night and today - the "Watts 30" being shipped off to Watts and the "Brookdale 34" being shipped off to Brookdale - then split from their ES and dumped back to Granger. Why are they splitting up the neighborhood like that? Wonder what Howie thinks, doesn't he still live there?
Why let the poor planning of All Day K screw up more bad planning for the new boundaries? Afterall, don't two wrongs make a right? Nevermind, they are on about 50 wrongs at this point. Why screw it up when you're on a roll?
