They need to get it through their thick skulls! An operating referendum will never pass any time soon. Truly, I'd give it 5 years minimum for a whole new gang of residents to move into the District and get snowed into believing a thing our SB/SD says. No way in hell would an operating referendum pass. Just because the environment's changed doesn't mean they'll change the play book. There will be drastic prognostications - NO MORE PE! NO MORE ART! NO MORE MUSIC! NO MORE SPORTS! SPLIT SHIFTS! (oops, got carried away, that was from 2007) Grab your color-coordinated t-shirts and start freaking out! Your little darlings will be lifelong failures UNLESS YOU VOTE YES! ![::)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/eyesroll.png)

Yet, here we are in a quagmire. We need more room--at the MS level, I think, even more so than at the HS level. Young is bursting at the seams. I think the alleviation will be welcome this fall. agreed at the MS level - ( we are not bursting at the seems in HS regardless of the hype ) -- However I have been here 20 years- my oldest was at Watts when there was 900 is a school for 650 before the addition -- then she was at WVHS as NV came into play - - both were short term issues, although not ideal. I'll take the millions and open a year from now. All that money doesn't make the end result building worth a penny more - it wasted expense from a commodity standpoint. but you're on to something else- MS we absolutely need the room, no one would argue - no division - so why isn't that what we built. When you look at SD presentations from 2005 - 2006 there is a bar chart that anyone could make the decision on - based on empty seats at each level --- ES least crowded ( where MS and HS will be when those classes get there) - MS basically full already- some way over - and HS with empty seats as well.

Again, I don't think this is a move aimed to cut costs or save money. It's the first step in passing an operating referendum. they can scream naked from the rooftops and the answer is still NO.NO NO

And by the way Dave, why don't you post the contracts over $25 more than once a year. Last we saw was back in June of 08. A lot has happened since then - dont cha think ?? Be on the lookout for the name Brad Sendon or the Center for Community Opinion. I have a feeling the board may feel the need to use their services again.

I do agree that we need some people with a strong understanding of finance and fiscal responsibility on our board. I would like a candidate that supports transparency. I agree that we should not feel compelled to post who we plan to vote for on April 7th. I do know that if I even get the slightest inkling a candidate has ties to MM, they are X'ed off my list for sure. MM has proven to take intelligent, business savvy, independent thinkers (so they said) and turn them into rubber stampers. Makes me think that one man is not able to do this and this was the true mindset of his compadres all along. Mom always said look at the company one keeps and it says alot about the person. ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) Group think! Not this time around. SSM...where is this information documented exactly? just because 6 out of 7 SB members don't agree with you does not make them MM zombies.......sigh ![::)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/eyesroll.png)

Point of Clarification on this:
"The district has been "tightening its belt" for the past two years. We've achieved savings of close to $5 million through changing healthcare providers, new contracts for custodial and banking services, restructuring our debt, and joining forces with District 203 to purchase a computerized financial system at a substantial savings. We also proactively looked at staffing ratios and made adjustments a year ago, so we don't anticipate major teacher layoffs next year. "
I hear it was the Union and their Insurance Committee that worked for 18 months and came up with these cost savings and presented them to the District in order to save money.
This Taxpayer gives a big Thank You to the good people who busted their butts to accomplish this.

Maybe that thank you should come from the hardhats on the MV construction site- it's where the savings went..

If the financial advisory committee is the one I'm thinking of, it dates back to 2005. Their primary contribution was the idea to finance the bonds over a longer period of time. To the best of my knowledge, they have not been meeting on a regular basis, but I could be wrong. It seems like it was a fairly small group - less than 10, I think. Some of them were active in the educational foundation, which is more or less a part of the status quo.
