Are they still counting the $900K 'saved' as 'revenue' ?

Are they still counting the $900K 'saved' as 'revenue' ? When will the 204 method of Accounting be taught in our schools ? Who will write the textbook ?

Someone told me they are getting the old ones from Scullen?? Anybody see that the portables are gone from Scullen?
That would be a concern since, I believe, for at least the time being Scullen is still over capacity.

The portable from Scullen are gone.
I would like to know how we have some ES with decreased enrollment and space and then Young is over crowded? I have to say bravo on our new boundaries. What sloppy work at best.
Also I don't think ADK help our space problem.

Also from green. Thanks sportsmom for posting this. I really don't like her tone!!
I sent an e-mail to Board of Directors on the Portables and got an immediate response from DDS. So thankful I did not vote for her. Below text copied directly from the e-mail.
" I don't believe it's a "waste of money" to educate our children, the future of America.
I don't believe it's a "waste of money" to keep students at their "home, or neighborhood, school" when possible.
Yes, there is an over-crowding issue at Young this coming school year, therefore the need for the temporary classrooms.
ADK is only one minor issue in the big scheme of the community elementary school. In fact, last year, Young was up 60 students from the previous year, with a total of 782 students.
Since we are a "unit" (or "building" district), before you pass judgement on your "tax dollars at waste," may I suggest that you call Young's principal to ask for specifics at 630-375-3800.
Thank you.
Respectfully, Dawn DeSart IPSD 204 Board of Education"

It's possible on many levels... but Young gets the benefit of that and others in the district do not, especially at the HS and MS level as well.

portables aren't the end of the world either. Put some bushes around them like they did at Scullen and it will look fine. Deal with it!

Some individuals are just soooo itching for a fight that they don't hear logic or reason. Sometimes, they can't even hear when you are actually agreeing with them.

The problem still is they were supposed to re do all boundaries from the ES level up -- now we sit here with the district well under 80% capacity in ES- and dropping. We have schools in the 60% ranges that keep adding satellites from far away just to stay there - yet we have schools at 90% + capacity. The question is WHY didn't they do even the level of job some private citizens did ? I think we know why - they were too busy protecting the insane boundaries they wanted for their precious new high school- with just the mix they wanted for things like ISAT scores. They might have been able to balance it the same way anyway, but that would have taken more effort and work - who cares if it would have prevented some areas from having absolutely horrid commutes, or the whole district having to pay more money for transportation costs which they said they had calculated already - and it is clear they had not based on recent actions Again, the priority was only one thing - get MVHS open ASAP and have it look exactly as we want it to.

Regardless of how an incoming email is, an elected official needs to exercise proper etiquette with their statements, including replies. It's unfortunate that someone already set the bar as low as it could go and they still hold office.
I thought Steckdad's reference to the original email being a mistake was pretty spot on. It's a mistake to think emailing the SB will sway any decision of theirs from what has already been decided (publicly announced or not) regardless of whether you might be right or not as well.

I am with Arch on this. She is an elected offical. As a taxpayer I am not happy with the portable at Young, since the boundaries were so poorly done. If I were to write to the SB I might not have the same tone as Sportsmom, but I would expect a SB member to explain how this is possible? Sportsmom has the right to be upset. Is is a waste of money and remember the SB added in the money for this portable as increased income.

The accounting for this high school cost may one day be a course at local colleges - it truly is confusing at best - deceptive at worst

How to account for, and report as REVENUE, interest that cost you more to 'earn' than you gain was not on the ballot. I'm also still trying to convince my wife that since I didn't buy a boat, we all of a sudden have $40K 'extra'
