The sign is a very nice addition to a school with some of the most bizarre sight lines. What are the "metal tube" looking things coming off the roof line?
Personally I think the inside of NVHS is dreary with very little outside light finding its way into the building.
Out of the three high schools WVHS has the best layout and has aged remarkably well. The building is handsome and the layout is great. Just my opinion.

The WV layout is absolutely insane IMO and is due to an odd design to start with coupled with several additions. It does look nice inside and out, but I'd never before heard anyone say they liked the layout. The MV layout seemed odd to me at first but at orientation I saw that it seems to work very well. I like that class locations and lockers are more conveniently laid out at MV. My MV student can make use of his locker on a regular basis and has no trouble getting from one class to another in time. My WV students have usually had to haul their 30 pound backpacks with them all day every day since their lockers were not near their classes, and classes far from each other as well.

All those open windows letting in the gray and depressing ambiance... Lots of comments from kids in there about that and the fact that it looks like an airport. This isn't an issue for my son. I wonder if all classrooms in MV have windows. I would think regardless of the weather that's nicer than being in some of those WV windowless classrooms.

Windowless = consistent and lack of rain noise beating on the glass causing disruptions every time there's a wind gust.

I guess although all classrooms have windows at MV, not all must have that issue since I asked my son after reading your post and he said he wouldn't have even known it was raining if he hadn't looked out the window (i.e. no sounds from wind or rain during his school day there).

Usually rain comes from a certain direction in a storm. For example, if you have an east facing window and the storm is coming from the west, you would never know it as you indicate... However, the west facing windows certainly will get it as mentioned. He must not have been in the common area either during the height of it, I imagine...

I would have to agree about the layout of WV. Some of the kids have dubbed Waubonsie as the new "Hogwarts" due to the idea of ever changing stair cases and never ending hallways. ;D MV navigation sounds good thus far but I would caution that the classrooms are not finished. When the Jr. and Sr. wings open and classes are being held in them, there is a strong possibility that some underclassmen could have a class or two over there. That would change the ease of navigation.

I mentioned this on another thread, but I thought I would add it here. I had an opportunity to be inside MVHS yesterday. Interior pretty well matches up with the exterior. I didn't care for it. I thought the ceilings were not finished, but now I think they were designed to see all the piping, etc. My first thought on a cold, rainy day was "It's going to be hard to keep this school clean". Not that it's easy to keep any school clean, but it's a little like white trim in your house, you love it, but it shows every speck of dirt. I only saw one wing, so I can't pass full judgment, but it's a little too 1950's industrial for my tastes.

Okay - I have still not been inside since there was absolutely no one there today when I drove into the parking lot - so that I could finally 1/ get an accurate distance from my house ( a tidy 7.6 miles btw from the northrn exit of the school - would be further from the bus stop itself to where you could get out southbound) - 2/ get a closer look at the school itself.
I will leave it at this to try and avoid offending anyone as that is not my intent - I'll just say it in no way looks like the most expensive school in the country, and the view northwards from the tennis courts is just sad. The one thing I will recommend is they somehow change the letters on the dark grey signs as you can't read any of the smaller letters for athletics / aquatics etc.- at all. Maybe a bright white or something would help - but it may be that they are just too small.

From talking and confirming with families in the immediate area, the time is 45 mins by bus; which is what KB said the avg time would be from this neighborhood back in Feb 08...
That was at least an honest number.

That was at least an honest number. 45 minutes with how many stops? I'll let Arch give the exact amount-- but from my neighbors- less stops than last year ( and more walking to thos stops) - 45 minutes in good weather - wait until winter. Of course as Arch said the 30 minute times being posted were crap- KB told us 44+ minutes the day after the boundaries were announced - and as I said earlier today for me 7.8 miles door to door...what nonsense.

And when the weather gets bad, are we talking an hour each way? That is unconscionable.

Post the MV route schedule for this area and I'll tell you which bus and stop it is.
