It looks like #204 is really on a roll. NVHS in the state quarterfinals. Another milestone. Friday vs Edwardsville in Joliet. it's great to see ! Also since I took some grief a day or so ago from a oster because I said many many scholarship athletes sign their junior year, congratulations are in order here also: ( Now it doesn't mean she won't play her senior year as suggested, it just means her scouting began 2 years ago or so and as soon as your junior season for your sport is over, you can sign your scholarship) Neuqua soccer player chooses Missouri June 5, 2007 Neuqua Valley junior Kendra Collins has verbally committed to play soccer at Missouri. Collins made her decision two weeks ago; she also had offers from Iowa, Northern Illinois and Memphis. "It is such a huge relief," Kendra said of making her decision early. "Now next year when everybody's panicking about college, I already know I'm going to Missouri." The decision also means Collins will be reunited with her older sister, Michelle, as teammates. They played together for two seasons at Neuqua, including 2005 when the Wildcats won the Class AA state championship. Michelle Collins completed her freshman season for Missouri in the fall. Kendra Collins finished with seven goals and five assists in helping the Wildcats (22-4) to a regional title and a sectional final appearance.

I think that, at least for soccer and volleyball, most college scouting is done at travel team tournaments, not high school games or tournaments. That is absolutely true - I know a major college VB coach ( 2 time national champs) who has NEVER scouted a HS game in over 25 years of coaching -- that is why I said before, these kids are playing school sports for pride, not for their financial advancement as some others here suggested. The coaches want to watch them when they play entire teams of highly skilled players justlike they will in college. p.s. - not some of the major VB torunaments like Autumnfest where the top 24 teams or so play, will draw a few scouts/head coaches from smaller schools who don't have the big travel budgets for their staff, as well as visits from major coaches who plan trips to town around those times - that occurs.

Once again, here is the spin... from the article you posted Mr. Who, it does not say affirmatively, that yes, KC is playing her senior year...only that she is thrilled to have her scholarship in place for college and that that is checked off of her list. The article also does not say that she has affirmatively been scouted for two years. Furthermore, let this be known...club, no club, MS or HS, if you are an exceptional athlete and have natural talent, THEY WILL COME

Furthermore, let this be known...club, no club, MS or HS, if you are an exceptional athlete and have natural talent, THEY WILL COME There is NO spin, I used her signing as a junior as an example because you somehow doubt how and when the recruiting process works, sorry I think I am a little closer to it than you. As far as her senior year, no I don't know, but I do know more than a handful of seniors on WVHS signed before this year and played senior year. Have you attended signing day ceremonies at WV or NV ? As far as having natural talent, I can tell you deifnitively, in some of these sports they DO NOT recruit out of high school, so if you do not play club, and they cannot watch you against similar talent, you likely will be missed. Now I know this first hand from college coaches at major schools - so just saying otherwise will not make it so. They only have so much money in budgets to recruit -- they cannot/ will not travel all over to high schools to do this, it is not financially feasible. The scouting is done by the head coach and also the top assistant - and they will travel to sites where national qualifiers / tournaments are to see ( in VB 200+ 16 - 18 year old teams over a 4 day period ). There has to be an economy to their trips. Many of these programs have overseas recruiters working for them also taking money from the budget. In case you haven't looked lately, look at the % of scholarship athletes that are not from the US in volleyball and soccer. They also have to fit this in around regular seasons and spring / fall sessions ( dependent on sports) - and their in school programs -- But of course you will keep repeating the Field of Dreams comment...good luck with that. With the rare exception, you're preaching false hope....make a few calls to college coaches and ask them what % of their club did not play club -- and more news for you - even the foreign born players play club ball -- last week we scrimmaged and practiced with a team from Russia and a team from the Dominican Republic that were here for a tournament. These also are clubs.

Again Harry, another local player ( this time football ) - signing junior year as I keep telling you is what happens - and this one absolutely appears to be going to play senior year-- still waiting for those non club examples in soccer / volleyball. The school pride this football player is exhibiting is what I am trying to explain. btw -- congrats to NV and Jeff -- this is about $175K if it is a full ride -- and one heck of an education -- and of course I am partial to the school. (and he gets to stay a Wildcat ) Two area players pick Northwestern www.suburbanchicagonews.com/napervillesun/sports/418017,6_2_NA07_SWIRE_S1.article June 7, 2007 Offensive linemen Jeff Radek of Neuqua Valley and Chuck Porcelli of Montini, both Naperville natives, recently gave early verbal commitments to play Big Ten football at Northwestern, beginning in the fall of 2008. Radek, a 6-foot, 6-inch, 275-pound senior-to-be, made his decision Tuesday, becoming the first Big Ten recruit produced by Neuqua. In the 2006 season, Radek helped Neuqua to an 8-2 mark and 1,825 rushing yards. He weighed other offers from Wyoming, Cincinnati and Rice, but went with Northwestern because he said its coaching staff expressed the most interest. "It's a lot of stress off my shoulders," Radek told The Sun on Wednesday. "Now I can go into my senior year and concentrate on football." Neuqua has produced previous Division I football players in the Pac-10 and Mid-American conferences.

Here' s some more proof for you Harry that those with scholarships still play ball their junior and senior years -- ( still waiting for even a shred of anything to the contrary) More examples of club ball D1 scholarships and commitments - local ( Aurora / Naperville ) - and this is just from one volleyball club -- there are more. Most of the 2007 grads signed last year- and watch as the 2008 grads will all play next year. Then look at the last example: - this is a girl from Arizona who came to Illinois to play for a particular club - then returned home to play her junior/senior year of high school -- yeah the colleges just come to players without club ball - these girls are part of 31 currently signed VB players from just one club in the area -- I only listed the ones from local schools -- Name Class Hometown Committed To IPSD # 204WVHS - Rachel Boryc 2007 Naperville,IL Georgia State University WVHS - Laura Stokowski 2007 Aurora,IL University of Kentucky NVHS - Paige Stevens 2008 Naperville,IL University of Iowa ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NNHS - Viera Rajcan, 2007, Lisle,IL, University of Evansville NNHS - Ali Rook 2007 Naperville,IL Western Carolina NNHS- Samantha Trauth 2007 Naperville,IL Colgate NNHS - Kelly McConkey 2007 Naperville,IL Lewis University NCHS - Lindsey Mango 2007 Naperville,IL University of Louisville NCHS - Caitlin Staib 2007 Naperville,IL Bradley University St. Francis - Megan Murison 2007 Woodridge,IL Seton Hall Stephanie Nucci 2007 Aurora,IL UCLA Tigers win all kinds of ways Jason P. Go girls!!! You are unbelievable - give me one , any coach you know or have talked to -- ever that has been to a HS game. This is not ' one clubs stats' - it is a random sample to show how those players play senior year. I likely know over 70 college coaches from talking to over 40 the last recruiting process and talking to others as I work at major local tournaments -- I am giving you facts not opinions - yet you choose to call that spin, when you present nothing. The reason you choose to have zero interest in debating facts is because you present none.So explain how that is 'spin' ? ?? I could post 100 schools worth of info ( I gave you facts for most local colleges ) - and you would say I didn't look at Alaska State. Title IX is dependent upon having enough qualified female athletes to fill the roles that colleges have open, or the risk would be to both womens and mens sports. You are misleading people into thinking this somehow happens by magic -- when I can prove to you it does not. Have you given me one local college soccer or VB player who did not play Club ? How is that spin ?

And 'verbal' commitments are just that. And that kid should be honored that NW is interested in him and that his 'verbal' obligation is done.........for the time being. No, you said you don't believe most players sign their junior year, and also that when they do they don't play their senior year.... in case you forgot - here is a sample of your quotes: "The team won't be the 'same' and they will drop HS for club cause they can't re create the magic, and magic should be created by their, "in your opinion", Junior year.
Will they quit their junior/senior years because the team 'sucks'
There is not much for them to look forward to and scouts attitudes are "What have you done for me lately" when judging kids for scholorships. Saying you were "State Champs 3 years ago.....does it resonate?
State Champs for Freshman and Sophomores playing Varsity....nothing in the future to look forward to.....
Furthermore, let this be known...club, no club, MS or HS, if you are an exceptional athlete and have natural talent,
THEY WILL COME ......" So when anyone tries to show that junior signees do play their senior year, or list numerous local colleges to show that club sports DO train athletes for scholarship positions, or that freshman and sophomores can and do star on some teams, and are driven to succeed in the future anyway -- we get back to the grudge you somehow have that club parents ( and for that matter you threw in piano etc ) - are stealing their child's youth- and they should be 'normal' whatever that is -- without a single fact to support the comments. I saw Venessa DiBernardo on Fox tonight as the High School athlete of the week -- funny she looked very happy to me ! Maybe someone should tell her about the doom and gloom ahead of her.....that would be your cue. btw- I happen to know for a fact that child who will likely be playing football for NU will be playing his senior year -- do you know what 'rules' surround a verbal versus a national letter of intent, and on whose part what obligations lie ? The significance of the first Wednesday in February ? Who controls the LOI ? The role of the CCA vs. the NCAA ? You told me my knowledge is old and outdated, I guarantee you it is not. are you sure what you're even trying to argue against , except club sports mostly - and an opinion they are not needed in many sports because mythical college coaches who do not recruit HS games will find athletes whose skill levels are less than others around them, but whisk them away to scholarships ?

Therefore unless Harry, you can provide a fact - even a single fact to support your visions -- I am done with this line of nonsense....and will file it with, HC calling WVHS a stepchild / somehow misreading a post into a Super from the district reading this board / and the Oliver Stone conspiracy over a vote in a poll.
whether on not MVHS kids end up getting a chance to play varsity sports, the net facts ( and before this is called spin, they have been more than provided ) remain: Club sports dominate college scholarships in many sports, one only has to look at the rosters // high school freshman and sophomores are more than ready physically/mentally and skill wise to compete and even star in varsity sports // gifted athletes will not be found by college coaches if they never see them play // a majority of college athletes commit in their junior year // the majority of scholarship signees continue to play HS ball their senior year, and they do it for school pride //
In order to have a real debate, there has to be facts on both sides, I have yet to see you provide any.
I will open a new thread ( and mods this one can be closed if you like, as it is going nowhere ) - for those to post accomplishments ( sports / academic / musical etc. of students in 204 for those of us who like to acknowledge the hard work they put into their pursuits.....
Amazing that some of the students already mentioned turn out to be sons/daughters, nieces or nephews of current posters -- and they are proud of these kids also. Not too much too soon, but payback for a lot of effort and focus -- all of which will serve them well in the future.
