There are four LTE published today (none from our friend Paul). All four blast NSFOA for filing a lawsuit. The best part, IMO, is that two of the letters specifically name WE as the neighborhood behind it, not even mentioning TG in any letters. Thank you, kind neighbors. We have continued the stigma. Over 1000 homes affected negatively by maybe 150 people. I think I will personally send a thank-you note to the organizers.

I know its hard not to be negative given everything that is going on. I mean gosh yesterday a columnist in the herald basically called out the same two subdivisions. But what positive things could be done? Maybe the HOA presidents could reach out to the newspapers and do a joint press release. Publicity goes both ways. No reason to put your hands up in the air defeated. Edit - Maybe you and Sushi can be the positive change makers. Reach out to Joni Hirsch Blackman and explain the error of her ways.

I'm sure that is happening while we speak (or type as the case may be). Actually, that is the next thing on my "to do" list. I do think some sort of LTE or something should come from these poor people before the perception gets out of hand. I know if I was a resident of one of those neighborhoods I would not want my beliefs grouped in with those beliefs of a vocal few. But I would also think that instead of just complaining about the subdivision bashing, which might be perceived as whining by some, I would suggest emphasiizing more on the inaccuracies of the perception and the wide support of whatever it is they support. These people can actually be more effective than, say a group from Pattersen or Steck, who isn't affected by the boundaries or change in school. They can show that there are people out there that voted for BB but are still OK with the "broken promise." Then people will realize that hey, people in subdivisions don't all think alike.

Letters to the Editor
March 9, 2008
Campaign promise is not a contract
I read with interest the article on the White Eagle residents exploring a lawsuit against District 204. If the basis for the lawsuit is that promises that were made during a campaign were broken, then we are going to need a lot more judges and lawyers. I don't think a promise during a campaign for a public office is a contract.
The D204 board is made of elected officials to represent their constituents. It seems to me to sue them is like suing yourself.
I don't deny anyone the right to seek legal help, but does the remedy always have to be a lawsuit? Sometimes things don't work out the way you had hoped. Deal with it and move on!
Another choice is to run for a board seat for D204 and walk in their shoes - your perspective might change!
Bruce Knopp

Current plan better for all D204 children
If a voter supports a public issue for selfish reasons, he votes irresponsibly and should expect no public sympathy when his influence wanes. Anyone who voted in 2006 should have examined the shaky Brach-Brodie plan closely, and not just with an eye toward avoiding Waubonsie Valley, as certain people appear to have done.
The current plan is realistic, financially responsible and better for all our children.
Robert Verrando

Time to focus on teaching children
I encourage anyone supporting the NSFOC lawsuit against District 204 to thoughtfully reconsider. If this meritless idea persists, it will be you, me and the all the taxpayers of 204 that could be paying millions on a long legal defense. If the Eola site for Metea is truly hazardous, why did more than 70 percent of the people support it? There was no outcry for safety when the Eola site was first chosen. Instead, the outcry came after some individuals decided they did not like the new boundaries.
All of us in District 204 will lose if the NSFOC continues along this path. The only winners will be the attorneys as they collect the hefty legal fees in this downward spiral.
Imagine the good that can be done with our money and energy if it was spent on actual education instead of on a dead-end lawsuit. It is time to move forward and to focus on teaching our children. Our money needs to be spent in the classrooms, not in the courtrooms.
Becky Barnhart

Stop quibbling over which high school
I can't believe White Eagle residents are planning a lawsuit against District 204 because they aren't getting the school building they want. What are they teaching their children? Certainly not what the quality teachers of our fine district are teaching them. I have never heard anyone complain about the education their child received at Waubonsie, and isn't that what the building is for?
The children probably wouldn't think twice about going to Waubonsie if the parents didn't make an issue about it. Look at the boundary map - it makes sense. It is time to get to work on Metea and quit quibbling about what building someone has to attend.

This all really looks like some sort of campaign to make it seem it's just a few people supporting NSFOC. Sort of like what happened with CFO - paint them as a small group of radicals that no right-minded person would think to be part of. The thing is, I don't see this as being a disgruntled few - nor do I see their motivations as selfish, etc. It also looks like the very people who are doing the "labeling" are the ones now saying people within the neighborhoods should speak out because they are so worried about certain neighborhood's reputations. Give me a break. They're the very ones trying to label areas. Now they're trying to pit neighbors against neighbors. It looks pretty manipulative to me. I've read the complaint (lawsuit) - and it's well written and thought out. I've also read the statements by the people speaking on behalf of NSFOC. They seem articulate and very professional. I think they have legitimate concerns and they shouldn't let anyone bully them into feeling ashamed, etc.

Snerdly,
Do you have actual numbers? 150 people attending an informational meeting does not mean a majority of the school district supports this lawsuit! Just because they drummed up enough dough to have SC write up a lawsuit, does not mean they have the backing to actually follow through with it. I'll agree with you that the lawsuit is written well, SC is a very good attorney, but he's not the Messiah and he doesn't work for free.

The e-mail that was forwarded/forwarded to me by this group is pretty clear - the sender was from Brookdale, the distributor was from Brooks, and it included e-mail links to the Herald, Sun, encouraged people to write LTEs, and posted the Potluck link as well. So, my oh my, coincidently the folks who stand to loose a shiny new high school are painting the folks who stand to gain a shiny new high school as radicals. This is assinine. And while accusations are flying about intentions, no one seems to give a damn about actually having a discussion about site safety. These are our kids we are talking about, and we evidently have nothing better to do than polarize the district and kill any meaningful discussion. This anti group has done nothing more than raise the stakes, once again. Just when you thought we couldn't get anymore disfunctional, this group of assclowns raises the ante. Logic and proportion have fallen soggy dead. The White Knight is talking backwards, and Red Queen is off with her head. I am sickened by this whole district. I'm outta here.

There was once a time when south 204 was a very choice place to move. But try selling your house now? Who would want their kids to move here? I am going to vent some anger. WE was a pretty mellow place ten years ago when we moved here. The kids still went to WV and loved it. Then TG went up and the new residents openly said they came for Neuqua and no other reason. I believe TG is responsible for most of the trouble. They didn't like Brach Brodie when it was first was proposed. (remember the temper tantrum and stomping out of the boundry meeting shouting threats?) All TG wants is just to stay at NV at any cost and get the district trashed along the way. I live in WE and we have been unfairly singled out in the press just because the meeting was held in our clubhouse. I say damn NSFOC!

Logic and proportion have fallen soggy dead. The White Knight is talking backwards, and Red Queen is off with her head. I am sickened by this whole district. I'm outta here. Yes, I agree that things have take a turn for the worse since the proboards split. True colors are being exposed of many in the district who have a deep seeded resentment and grudge against White Eagle (and more recently Fry) and want to stick it to them in any way possible, at every turn. It is so obvious. Even the papers are naming White Eagle by name 5 or 6 times in the last 3 days for a lawsuit from a general group that is not associated with the subdivision. This coordinated attack is what sickens me the most. As another point of proof of the stereotyping going on and the motives behind it: The Fraud website registration pages lists "White Eagle, Tallgrass" as the administration contact. Whoever wrote this drivel couldn't help but try to get in yet one more cheap shot at these 2 communities. It is such a low-class manuever. And Sushi, the point is that because some smear tactics against White Eagle are being used, we should LOOK BEYOND the smear tactics instead of, as you say, blaming the organizers of NSFOC for White Eagle getting smeared. Why don't you blame the ones unleashing the smear campaign? Also, those who complain daily about the LTE section for being contrived and scripted, are now saying that these White Eagle bashing letters are authentic and capture the true feelings of the district. Its unbelievable. Are you guys for real? Wolverine, the future contracts for district 204 have plummeted in the last 4 days, and I can't blame you for wanting to get out before the ship goes down and you will be left with nothing; emotionally, spiritually, and financially. If the actions of the school board, administration, and some over-zealous members of our community have brought us to this, I respect your decision and wish you well, but many of us have no other option to stick it out and to try and resolve the problem. Don't ask me how I became the villain..I just moved to White Eagle 4 years ago to try to find a good place for my kids to attend school, and I have people calling me out in every newspaper, in every blog, at every SB meeting, and every campfire telling stories about how those big, bad White Eagle people screwed us over in the past. If I move and my daughter doesn't attend a district 204 school, then there will be a net-loss in the district. I personally know that this net-loss will be huge because she is an incredible student who fits into the system very well, and her success and positive outlook and enthusiasm is contagious and seems to motivate her friends and classmates to be successful. She is so successful, that my wife and I will do anything to guarantee a good education and environment for her, even if it means that we have to move out of 204 and lose our house. I will not send her into a war zone with a "White Eagle" target on her back if there are so many haters out there that will do nothing but to try to bring her down. Do you guys really want to create a war zone?

I sent an email objecting to that idea before they held the meeting there but obviously they didn't care or listen. From this point forward I know several residents who want to ask that no 'political' type of meetings can be held at the HOA clubhouse. That's probably a good idea.

They claim it's all about boundaries - well I believe it is....... for them.Their argument has no reason or logic behind it. It's simply a smear campaign against certain neighborhoods. It's caustic and quite frankly desperate. I wish you well Wolverine. The inmates are running the asylum - I don't blame you for checking out.

And it will be the district's loss. Well, jsut like I waded through nsfoc's site. I waded through the nsfocfraud site. They do have this this content on a page: "We're not blindly loyal to the School Board Over the past two years, could things have been handled better? Yes. Should there have been more communication? Most likely. We're not asking anyone to praise the handling of the situation. But we can't change the past." I will be looking to the nsfocfraud during the next elections so they can prove this statement.
