I don't want to sound mean here however, Joni always takes the SB postion. If the DH wants her to write her point of view, I think the other side of the story should be written as well. Don't they do something like that now with the HS kids? Along with PL, I think the newspapers were also given or promised something to keep the sb line. Like for instance continued access or interviews. I am not really trying to sound like tin foil hat man. I just think when the admin/sb decide on the new site they executed a highly organized strategy to ensure smooth passage. Actually, I am very impressed on how this was executed and the spin was completely controlled. It is very impressive.

The job of op ed is not to placate the majority opinion, or report news and fact, but to polarize a topic. In a glass half full sort of way, the column is very effective. So not sure why a person would be surprised that her writings get a reaction, or would feel the need to defend an op ed writer. She doesn't need to be defended - the reaction indicates that she's written a successful column. She's happy - don't spend your energy worrying about Joni! That's bullc**p. Joni thinks for herself. Just because she doesn't agree with some of the people on this board.......

Entitled, to make racist comments about AT is totally inappropriate. You should apologize. Regardless of whether I agree or disagree with her, I would never offend her ethnicity. That's bigotry. AT quotes Ghandi as part of her signature in emails. You are quick to judge.

I too heard she quotes Ghandi in her emails. I heard that too, and I heard one of those emails was sent out today telling people to vote "NO" in the SunPoll along with the speed typists at the other board and the nsfocFRAUD people. From the potluck: >> By Anonymous on March 15, 2008 2:18 PM District 204 School board member Alka Tyle was caught circulating an email instructing people how to vote. Just another example of how district 204 tries to control and manipulate the vote to achieve the outcome they desire? Sure looked that way. Can you say bait and switch? It is interesting that Ghandi helped poor farmers, laborers and others to protest against oppressive taxation. Seems sort of cynical for Tyle to quote Ghandi in her email when she never seems to be too concerned with the overtaxation of working people, seniors citizens and those just struggling to get by. Hypocritcal? You decide. <<

Joni's opinions are certainly valid and well thought out. Perhaps next time she can look into the past once again, when the district DISMISSED the AME site as being UNSAFE. Why was it unsafe then? Where they correct in saying it was unsafe or just conjecturing? What leaves us to believe that it is safe now? The fact that they say it is safe? I don't have a kid in this fight. One is graduating from an overcrowded NV and one is a Freshman now and will stay there. If they did move they would go to WV which I am proud of. I have substituted at both NV and WV and find them both to be fine schools. In fact, I have substituted at most of the Title I schools in the district and find them to be fine schools as well with excellent teachers and staff. How many of you can honestly make this claim? Many of the heroes in our history are individuals that were not of privilege and worked their way up from less than perfect circumstances. But that doesn't answer the nagging question of why we are moving ahead with this site that is considered by so many, including the District way back when, to be unsafe. I know it is cheaper (so far), but is it SAFE? ----------------------- i didn't know which schools were Title 1 schools, and why it mattered(?) until the SB/SD set up boundary plans back in early 2006. They moved schools around in each plan to balance (?) the high schools. Sorry, i didn't know this was a problem(?) with our hi schools at that time- i had just moved here, and didn't have hi school age kids, and got my news from the NAPERVILLE SUN, and, occasional, mailings from the SD where eveything seemed to be 'peachy keen'!
