There has been 'buzz' out in the community about 'changes' coming for the Supported Education program in D204.
There seems to be a lot of rumors going around but I have not seen anything concrete as of yet.
Does anyone have any blueprint or idea what this will involve or has anything even been mentioned/published yet?
My observation over the past couple of years has been a drifting away from the I in IEP and instead have seen lots of 'lumping' of kids into groups and then having a many to one relationship with an Aide help towards the lowest common denominator in the group. Is this going to be the new direction in the district?

This was posted on the other board:
Hello... I just got off the phone with Dr. Daeschner and he shared with me the highlights of the board presentation for Monday. This is a message I sent out to the Special Needs parents in D204's Special Needs PTA, so I thought I'd share it here too. Hope you can attend this meeting.
D204 School Board meeting 3/24 - Accelerating the Achievement of Special Education Students
At the school board meeting on Monday, March 24, Dr. Daeschner (D204 Supterintendent) and Sharon Tate (D204 Assistant Supt. of Student Services) will be presenting to the board their review of special education delivery in our district. This is part of the Superintendent's Goals that was submitted in August.
During this meeting, the special ed achievement data and a review of how special ed services are currently delivered will be presented. There will also be a look at national trends, RTI model, and ideas to accelerate special ed achievement by piloting in 4 elementary schools and 2 middle schools will be shared. All of this is being presented in an effort to tighten the gap that exists between the achievements of the special ed and general ed populations. Trends that will be shared include: Special Ed support teachers spending more time with kids working collaboratively with Special Ed teachers and regular classroom teachers in finding ways to increase the achievement of our kids adding teachers for special ed I have had numerous conversations with Dr. Daeschner, Ms. Tate and various other administrators involving this issue. Taking a look at this data and doing something to hold schools and teachers more accountable for the results is a positive thing. I have seen the data and was very surprised to learn that a district such as ours has such large discrepancies. Plans to change this are, in my opinion, certainly worth exploring.
If you'd like to hear first hand what is being presented to the board, please come to Monday's board meeting. This item will be discussed during the working session from 5:00 - 6:00 pm. The public is welcome to attend, but this is not a forum for public comments. Public comments can be made at the general session of the board meeting that night which will reconvene at 7:00 pm. The meeting will be held at the Crouse Educational Center, 780 Shoreline Drive in Aurora.
