Dangit ED, if you would have posted this 12 hours earlier you could have saved me $6 and a trip to the DuPage County Building in Wheaton. But at least I also got to vote !

That Naperville 40th precinct has me confused.
That's the Gombert area.
In the boundary discussion that group at Gombert was going all over the place and we barely heard a word from them. However at the 2005 referendum they had the largest turnout and the largest percent of NO votes. It just seems a little strange.

Some people know the power of the vote over the voice.
Gombert spent years fighting to get an ES. We could have opened a school 10 years earlier and filled it. Many schools were built and could only open with a couple hundred students, and yet Gombert was bused to McCarty, as they drove by Georgetown. Gombert was finally built, it was jokingly refered to as "the school that should never have built" by some in the SD.
We watched as our wealthier neighbors seemed to get whatever they wanted. I don't want to go to that school, I want to go here. Look, we got a brand new soccer field. We have the best of the best at our schools, jeolosy or just knowledge that life is what it is, probably a little of both.
WV (where we were sure our children were intended to go) had an all-time low as far as public image. We had fights. Our building was falling apart. Nobody wanted to go to school with us. And now, a new Taj Mahal was going to be build and on the wrong piece of property.
There were a lot of reasons I voted no last year. I didn't trust the SB. I was angry at the image that my son's school had. I hated the BB property. I knew that somehow, it was not going to be good for us because, well it never has been. And on top of it all, instead of fixing our HS, the SB had the nerve to bribe us with a mil. in repairs. I was insulted on top of evreything else.
I could not even begin tell you where Gombert stands today for the same reason you were surprised by the numbers you saw. I know there are some changed votes, including my own. HC insulted Gombert during the boundary discussions and some parents are upset by it. Shouldn't he know know that what he said was rude?
Why stand on a soap box, use the one voice you have that counts?

I agree, the Gombert vote is huge, and could swing it either way.
Hopefully our neighbors in Gombert are as excited about a fresh start and starting a new school the right way as we are.

Just a note, I have a lot of stuff to do in the upcoming week. I will be around but won't have the time to really make a map. If someone wants to take the lead on this, please do.

If I was working for the YES people, I would get my ass over there and start talking to the Gombert people. Not just putting door hangers on their doors.

People should certainly be called out on their rudeness. As to the idea that the 3rd high school is going to be the "new Taj Mahal", it is my understanding that the Mayor of Bolingbrook has said that it isn't on the same level architecturally as NV. Actually, a friend of mine who called his office quoted him as saying the new school is slated to look like "a big ugly box". I am getting my info. 2nd hand. I am just relating what I was told. I believe that Topher had spoken directly to the Bolingbrook Mayor on this also. Topher could probably shed additional light on that. It does make a little sense because of all of the heat the SB took about NV. I hope the 3rd high school is nice though. It absolutely doen't have to be the Taj Mahal, but it should be decent looking.

Gatormom I couldn't have said it better. I am a Brookdale resident and this vote is not an easy 'yes' for me because of the very issues you bring up. For many of us in the district, this vote is not a 'no brainer'. It is more complicated than 'do we need another building'. Certainly that is a major question but there is more to it. As for HC you are right on ... words fail me as far as he is concerned.

Notconvinced,
I should say that I am convinced now that we do need a 3rd HS. I have done enough research this time, shed my old angers, and asked myself why am I fighting this so hard.
The boundary wars, as I like to call them, really brought it into perspective for me. I was furious the SB would take my poor little neighborhood out of WV, we were never wanted at Nequa and now our only choice was Nequa or new.
I had to analyze why I wanted Gombert to stay at WV and realized that I personally was being very selfish. My son was at WV and I wanted my daughter to go there. I love the school, the teachers, everyone I have talked to. My son could walk home or take the bus. I was attached to it. Once I shed that and realized without sacrifice on my part, the whole SD could suffer, it was easier for me to move towards yes.
I understand what is happening to BD is far worse then what is happening to Gombert. I cannot presume to tell anyone how to vote. I just wonder how bad it will be for all of our children to attend overcrowded schools with overworked staff.

I'm sorry you felt that you weren't wanted over there but I do appreciate your thought process and how you got to your yes. I, too have been discouraged over the years (17, in fact) with how things have been done, at times, but in the end, the kids are what is most important. I loved your post. Thank you.
