Even if I form my own opinion, if there is no objectivity possible on the site selection, then it doesn't matter. I think there should definitely be objectivity possible with the SB - that should be what they strive for, but unfortunately, we clearly don't always get that - as is the case with JC. What I meant was that we need to live with the decisions that elected officials make, like it (agree with it) or not. I have no reason to believe that the SB does not have the SD's best interests at heart. But, I also bet, that no matter what the SB does, there will be people who are unhappy (and may accuse the SB of bias.

Every person on the planet has biases. We are all human. Some work had to see past it and some work hard at hiding it. Daeschner is in charge of negotiations. Howie orchestrated the negotiations to his liking. You'll notice Longwood got a pretty good deal - they were going to the closest school. Why shouldn't Daeschner put the school up North? I'm sure that while driving by that site every day on the way to work he thinks "Now that is a perfectly good site for a high school." I meant this just like I posted it earlier. I don't think Daeschner is Dr. Evil. But that's not the point. If no one ever puts together an objective analysis at this point, why should Daeschner look any further than across the street from his house? The school board approved his objectives & goals for the year. His goal is to get the high school open asap and within budget. In doing that, the SB ditched every other objective for the site of the new high school. So even if a site is far superior but requires more time or more money it is not acceptable by their own measure. People complained about this during the 06 ref and Metzger at least made an effort with the site selection report. Is it too much to ask that they at least try to put together an objective analysis before the final decision is made?

Is it too much to ask that they at least try to put together an objective analysis before the final decision is made? No, it's not too much to ask. Let's just hope the SB is listening (and watching) and takes your advice to put an objective analysis together. I think that should be a given!

Wow, I can't keep up! All I was trying to say was that it makes no sense to get all riled about boundaries for a northern site when a) no one knows we're getting a northern site and b) no one knows what the boundaries will be if one were chosen. As someone who had a son attend both Watts and Hill, I understand that it's farther than the usual in-neighborhood jaunt most are used to, but I can't help but notice the tendency towards hyperbole in describing the torturous commute 5 miles up River Road.
Having said that, for the record, IMHO, a northern site would be a terrible decision. It would be the site most disruptive to most people, and those people might include you or they might include me. I would prefer Macom as a second choice. And I could care less how much the guy makes in the process of selling us the land.
Although that point of view is admittedly based on the fact that I am thinking about my area vs. about neighborhoods in the north, who would have the longest commutes then in that scenario. But that's the way we all think, and that's normal and not something I think anyone needs to apologize for. There will be a few people getting the short end, no matter what site is picked, and that is just the unfortunate reality of the situation.
Anyway, I'm just not going to start freaking out about who is being sent from 75th street or 83rd street for that matter up to Ferry road until I know that's the decision that's been made. And I have an 8th grader, so we'll feel all the levels of the problem, including changing HS, leaving friends, and feeling the disappointment at the change from BB to another location whatever that ends up to be.
I'm just going to avoid torturing myself over it this close to the holidays....

I think Tall grass could make a strong argument to stay at NV, they are walkers and they have a bridge, while Springbrook has no walkers and are about equidistant to WV as TG.
Maybe the 95th st corridor is a better way to look to fill a cemtral WV.

I'm sorry but how do you come up with the statement that Springbrook is as equidistant from WV as Tall Grass. I don't see how that can be as Springbrook is East of Naper/Plainfield road. That has to be farther from WV than Tall Grass!

I went into my NV phone book and randomly picked an address in Springbrook and one in Tall Grass - Springbrook was 7.94 miles and Tall Grass 6.21 miles. Not a huge difference but a difference nonetheless.

I took the furthest distance in the TG attendance area and the furthest in the Springbrook and came up basically, like you, equidistant. It certainly wouldn't be a stretch. I emailed the SB about concerns over distances traveled and their response was that one bus trip equals another, they were not concerned at all if the bus trip was 2 mi or 5 mi.
With finals this week alot of kids were walking home at different times to White Eagle and Tallgrass, I know mine did....that's what got me thinking. Did a lot walk home to Springbrook, I don't know?

WVHS Parent, If that is the dash's logic (59 is a clear boundary) does that mean nobody crosses 59? yet travels all the way up it or down? Somebody has to cross the road at some point. Does Brookdale travel all the way down 59 to go to Neuqua?

Rt 59 runs all the way up the district. Are you telling me BD won't go to a northen site because of Rt 59?
I would really like to see the Dash fill two schools west of 59 without crossing his so called natural boundary.

He said it...I did not say I agreed with it.
I will withold further comment on these types of matters until I know where the site is.

This is what redrawing boundaries means...evreybody's cards back on the table. WELCH, SB and CLOW are no more safe than STECK, MCCARTY, GT, or GOMBERT.
Besides, the numbers point to most of these schools moving at some point anyway. They will move to a north AME and the "central school" whether it's WV, BB or Macom.
