Kathy Birkett and John S. were at the Hill PTA mtg last night, and addressed any questions the crowd had. It was a great session and interesting to hear the process they went through when Neuqua opened years ago. They are going to do some of the same steps with Metea (i.e. letting the students have the first tour of the completed school, before the parents). A lot of neat stuff coming.
Kathy mentioned when Neuqua opened there was a lot of concern about the principal selection, and that they were unsure of the timing to announce the Metea principal. I didn't live in the district at the time, so wasn't aware. Just kind of surprised that would be such a big issue.

Surprising here, too. Kathy Birkett was the first principal, and while I didn't live here at the time, it is my understanding that she was named well in advance of the opening to basically take care of hiring and internal issues once the space was enclosed, carpeted, etc. I do know that neighborhing school districts have done the same thing, as an assistant principal at NV left to become principal and open one of the Oswego (East?) high schools. Beyond that, can't imagine what the issue would be, other than whether an assistant at one of the current schools should be promoted - I understand there are some outstanding ones at both high schools.

I am sure that's what is going to occur here too...I think they have a little time to work that through right now....Don't think she was named before NVHS Constr. started.
