Mark Metzger assured us that the freshman campuses would be sufficient so that we would never need a 3rd high school. They weren't.
Mark Metzger assured us that we would be able to afford the Brach Brodie property. We couldn't.
Mark Metzger assured us the quick take would work. It didn't.
Now Mark Metzger assures us that the new Metea site is environmentally safe. Is it?

Is it the safest spot from an infrastructure point of view?
Recent gas pipe explosions (Texas, Waukegan, etc), rail tanker derailment in CA w/ toxic fumes from tanker cars...
Yup... Great place for a school.

To my surprise, I am learning that many of my neighbors who voted NO during the 2005 AND 2006 referendum did so NOT because they didn't think a 3rd high school was necessary, but because they didn't TRUST the school board based on their experiences with them in the past.
I am finding many long-time residents have seen the school board say one thing and do another many times before.
Just an observation that I had no idea was out there.

Are you kidding me? Have you never read any of my posts pointing out all of these thoughts?
There are many people out there that have lost all faith in the SB and administration. Look back at the history. I am a fairly long time resident here and realized this after the push for the freshman center referendum. The rest - well - is histroy.

Thanks doc. I just feel like I should have done more to try and get people to understand where I was coming from. I feel really bad about what has happened. In my book, no one is a winner here - including the taxpayers. Oh, some may be happy with the location - for now. Just wait until the next referendum for more $$$. They really did it to the voters of this district - I can only hope that enough people are still around for the next election etc.

Sadly, prior to the recent debacle, criticism of our school board was clearly not welcome here. Perhaps it stems from this blog's origin as a site supporting the board, or perhaps it was a reflection of the majority of posters.....
I hope that there will be more acceptance of minority opinion in the future -- the debate will be good for the district.

I too wish I was more vocal about voting no, but I was literally yelled at or called a CFO. I was told I was not for the children. After casting my no vote, I hoped the SB would be able to get the land and I would be wrong, but here we are. Just what I was afraid of.
I hope all will remember this at the next ref and while voting in the next SB. We must not forget.

I voted NO too and it had NOTHING to do with location and EVERYTHING to do with accountability. Unfortunately, I am now in the position of saying "I told you so" to many of my friends who are complaining now. I actually don't say that. I just think it in my head as I listen. ;D Lol!

Yes - throw me in the being accused of "CFO" boat along with you guys. I voted no based on so many different issues - one being that they had not secured the land and it was anyones guess what that would cost.

I absolutely agree that there were those on this board who were onto all of this for a long time. However, in my initial post I thought it would be worthwhile to highlight the track record of what the school board has been telling us in order to ask this question -
Does anyone really think we will ever know the whole truth regarding the environmental study?
I am hoping that this time the community has learned from what you have discussed here, and that this question won't fall into the "hindsight" category like all the others.
And for the record, I have no children involved in any of this. I have one student left in high school who will have graduated by the time any of this happens. It's just that I can't imagine thinking all of this is OK for someone elses child when I would not want it for my own without some way of knowing for sure what the truth is and that I could trust the information put forth.

I'll go on record saying that I don't believe our current school board has lied to us (nor do I know of any cases of prior SBs lying either). Being wrong about something and lying are two entirely different things IMO.

I want them to simply release the data and be open to the idea of a professional group coming in and giving a second opinion / peer review. What they do beyond that is up to them. It would be a needed and huge step forward on the road to repair.
