We are planning a short trip to Vegas over Thanksgiving leaving on Wed 11/22 and probably returning on 11/25 to visit with my brother (an ex 204 teacher) and his family...they are thrilled we are coming.
My question to anyone here.... Prices for airfare seem a bit high...is it because of the holiday or am I checking too soon? When/where is a good place and time to start looking for airfare?

I think its because of the holiday. I booked tickets to NJ and a rental car not too long ago and the prices were noticeably higher than they had been for a trip we just took in August.
In fact, we booked a rental mini-van for our August trip and I went with a full size for the November trip because of the cost. After traveling with two kids and my mother, it may be worth the extra cost to get the mini-van.

Sorry parent, Didn't see this until now. I have been tied up lately! There is a new site: www.farecast.comWhich will forecast the fares for certain cities, and will give you a recommendation whether to wait or buy. Not all cities are supported yet, but it is a great idea and will give you some insight into your dilemma. AE

It's pretty cool....It says fares are dropping and to wait.......I also put a call into step-mother in-law (travel agent) for her insight.
Thanks AE

Parent - careful on waiting.... I am a travel agent and Las Vegas combined with Thanksgiving is a recipe for very full flights that only continue to get more costly. And since there is no more charter flights to/from Vegas, commercial airlines fill up faster. I would tread carefully on the wait and see policy.

That is what my in-law just said too....and one of the flights II was looking at is now booked full. As a travel novice...I completely forgot that Thanksgiving is one of the busiest days. Blond Moment.
Right now Southwest seems to be the best bet. Thanks all
