Why is one of your fliers that is circulating putting these couple of thoughts out there?
The first comes from the headers on the rear of the sheet, the first one reads something like - a Yes vote for dist 204 means.....- and the second box below it reads something like - a no vote or not voting means.....
There are members of this district who have become naturalized citizens who had gotten the idea from this flier that by not voting, they would be casting their no vote.
Has 204thekids hired the same PR firm that the district is utilizing?
Why does one of the facts on the front side state that if this referendum does not pass, the SB will not bring forth any further referendums? The way it is written it leads the reader to fear that if they vote anything other than yes for this referendum they will never get a fix for the problems we are faced with in this district. This is a comment I make after hearing someone who does not believe in this referendum said to me that they feel they have to vote yes for this one because the board will never give us another chance at fixing our problems.
I will check back later for any answers you may post, have to run out with kids and probably won't get back to this board till after 11pm or later.

A non citizen is a much different case (and statistically much lower probability) than someone who can vote, and wastes it. I believe the latter is who that message was targeted at. I am sorry that the limited real-estate on a flyer does not allow for full disclosure of all possible nuances.

After the SB spoke at Gombert last week, they specifically stated that if the referendum fails again, they will take that as the community wanting only 2 HS's at 5000 students apiece. So, split shifts and portables will be the wave of 204's future.

...IF it fails, and that is the current mindset of the existing board, remember that there will be some new blood come 2007. So, there is at least a chance that someone new can start to break that mindset.

I agree, it would not be pretty by then if that's the only thing that's done (SS). It only takes 1 person to cause a change... The rock in the placid pond... I would suspect though that digging the heels in the dirt now and sticking to it out of pride is not something that would unfold.

I thank all of you folks who are working so tirelessly to pass this referendum. It really is in the best interests of the kids of our district to have a 3rd HS. I do hope to see you same folks, once you've gotten alot of us out of your HSs to work just as hard passing the 2009 referendum. That ref. will be raising funds totally by a tax increase, so even though you personally won't get anything out of it, you will have to reach into your pockets and pay your fair share. If you don't pass it, I have to assume that either the NHS will remain empty or the kids who attend it will not have the many benefits that the kids at WV and NV have (sports fields and the like). I hope you won't be selfish like those No voters because, after all, this is 4 the kids.

Just got a flier in yesterdays mail that talks about the overcrowding at 204 HS's. There is a color picture on this flier and the words reflect "standing room only" and "overcrowding affects our children" followed by the back up points to those headers. This picture is of concern to me. In the lower left hand corner there is a person pushing a baby stroller.
Out of curiosity, why would you use a photo in a flier that you are trying to convey an overcrowding problem to the people you are sending this to, that can't possibly be a picture from the school day at a 204 HS? Is this picture even from one of our high schools?
Can someone who knows anything about this flier post about the photo please? Thanks

I have lived here for 17 years, have no plans to move, have voted YES for every referendum and will be happy to vote YES again in 2009.

I can't think of anywhere in either high school that this picture could have come from. Not the best marketing tool, I agree. I think they are just trying to make a point.

Thanks If teenage parents are being allowed to bring their kids to school, I hope that the SB is figuring this into their capacities. Strollers at school gives a new meaning to the word "preschool". I would also like to know how you rated a color picture on your flier when mine was a mere black and orange photo copy. (Halloween motif - scary!)

(cracking up over here, LOL) Don't you know I get a color flier because I live in TG? LOL I am entitled to more because of that (this is huge sarcasm for my friends of the board who have ill feelings toward some of TG who did not act with their best behaviors at the SB meetings)

I totally understand trying to make a point, but feel this is a deceitful way to push their position. Why is it necessary to use a picture that isn't from the school day? It is obvious to me from the headers and the wording below about D204 and overcrowding that they want the reader to believe this is an "actual" example of what the schools are like for our kids. Please know I understand you simply answered my question and I'm sure you had nothing to do with this flier, but are just offering a thought on it and this response is not directed to be mean toward you.

No offense taken. As I stated, I was confused by the photo and felt it shouldn't have been used. ;D
