If you had a choice to move to Plainfield or stay in Aurora in the Will County portion-- Which suburb would you consider? Are Plainfield Schools better than Oswego Schools? What about the high schools?

What about the high schools? I have lived in this district for almost 17 years now. Even if I could, I wouldn't move out. Many friends have moved to Oswego and Plainfield. I believe that those SD are up and coming in comparison to ours. They are still undergoing their own "growing pains." I have heard about some great programs that each SD has that we don't, but I have also heard some problems with other programs. So yes, as Arch said, "better" is in the eye of the beholder. We will leave this district when my children are done with college, and then we will sell our house to a young couple with children, and move out west to live in our "green" log cabin.

That is the total referendum amounts eventually needed for schools that I know includes 2 more high schools - Plainfield just approved their 4th -- and growth continues in both areas.

I have not been following much on Oswego and Plainfield SD. Both need 4th Hs's? WOW! They must be significantly smaller sized schools. Does anyone here know what their current capacities are now?

I looked them up here are their current populations ( unsure if any are over capacity) Oswego High - 1999 Oswego East High - 914 Plainfield South - 2805 Plainfield Central - 2376
FWIW also per the report cards (only Oswego East did not have one yet) The numbers seemed lower than our 2 schools.

I talked with a friend who just moved down to Plainfield at the beginning of the school year. They are the 12th home in an 1800 home development. There has been no movement in sales since she has been there. Even the spec homes have not sold.
In addition, she told me with the new HS opening soon, they too will be undergoing boundary wars....I mean boundary changes. In fact she mentioned that her daughter may be bussed past 2 ES to get to another. Hmmmmm, sound familiar.

Also remember that the 3rd HS is opening ( not far from the Bolingbrook land that was part of our 12 or so potential sites) - and they just approved a 4th HS the same time we approved our 3rd. -- so they are far from done with boundaries. Also from some people who worked on my team about 1 -2 years ago they were told they might cut sports, and some extra curriculars and arts programs from HS as they just didn't have the money - that was Plainfield Central I believe. Don't know where that situation lies, bt I would look into before I headed that way.

My daughter was payed to play in the orchestra for their school musical because Plainfield district does not have orchestra in their school. Their school contacted 204 to see if any of our excellent musicians would do this for them. Plainfield school system never had orchestra, so that isn't due to cuts. I don't believe that they have pools either, their swim teams practice at the Y. I too know someone who moved to Plainfield and their daughter goes to Plainfield North. She said that the class sizes were smaller but there were things 'missing' like the pool and computers, she said she felt like she was, "going to school in an empty shell, like they needed to open a school but didn't put stuff in it". I haven't spoken to her about it this year to see if things have changed.

D'oh, you're absolutely right, the 3rd one is open North, South and Central - and it was the 4th one that was part of the referendum this past spring. And I'm hearing a lot of what you're hearing re : some of the schools being underfunded and stripped. www.learningcommunity202.org/dist202/referendum/referendum.htm

cantretirehere: Ask her about Plainfield North...please give me as much info as possible. Ask her about Plainfield Schools in general.
Is Oswego's school district going experiencing the same thing?

cantretirehere: Ask her about Plainfield North...please give me as much info as possible. Ask her about Plainfield Schools in general. Is Oswego's school district 308 going experiencing the same thing? I know from a friend that lives there that they are facing unprecedented growth - and have identified the need for : "Voters in Oswego (Ill.) Community School District 308 have approved a $450 million bond proposal that would pay for an early childhood center, eight new elementary schools, four new junior highs, one new high school, additional support facilities, and renovations and/or additions to existing schools over the next five years. (www.oswego308.org)" If you think $124M was hard to swallow here, try $450M which is the referendum they are looking at. You want to factor that into any property tax estimates on property you look at there
