Warriors seek reversal of fortunes in rivalry game September 13, 2007 By Greg Schultze special to the sun

Ticket info Advance tickets for the 9th annual Indian Prairie Classic between Neuqua Valley and Waubonsie Valley went on sale Wednesday and will be on sale today at both schools. At Waubonsie, tickets can be purchased from 9:30 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. at the Green Campus and from 9:25 a.m. until 12:40 p.m. at the Gold Campus. Tickets are also available at Neuqua from 10:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Beginning at 3 p.m. Friday, tickets will be sold at the North Central College ticket booth. Tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for students and senior citizens for the 7:30 p.m. varsity game Friday at NCC. War of 204 scores
(Neuqua Valley leads series 7-1; won five straight) 9/29/06: Neuqua 25, Waubonsie 6
9/30/05: Neuqua 22, Waubonsie 3
9/24/04: Neuqua 63, Waubonsie 21
9/26/03: Neuqua 28, Waubonsie 7
9/20/02: Neuqua 27, Waubonsie 7
9/14/01: Waubonsie 7, Neuqua 0, OT
10/20/00: Neuqua 21, Waubonsie 17
10/22/99: Neuqua 14, Waubonsie 6 Bragging rights, for one. First and foremost, no matter their records, Waubonsie Valley vs. Neuqua Valley is a huge rivalry game. This weekend at North Central College will be no different -- especially since Neuqua Valley has won seven of the last eight games between the two. Staying alive in the Upstate Eight Conference is also a factor for Waubonsie. After a tough 14-13 loss to St. Charles East this past weekend, the Warriors can ill afford another loss if they hope to take home the conference crown.
Similarly, starting 1-3 would put Waubonsie in a precarious position as far as making the playoffs are concerned. Last year the Warriors missed the postseason, despite a 5-4 record. Losing Friday would force them to win the remainder of their games to ensure a playoff spot.
All that being said, Waubonsie is not in bad shape. After a 28-21 win over Naperville Central in the season opener left many people ranking the Warriors as one of the best big schools in the Chicago area, Waubonsie suffered tough losses to two powerful squads in Wheaton Warrenville South (31-21 in Week 2), and to St. Charles East last week.
In that loss to East, Waubonsie got an 8-yard touchdown run from Kenny Harrington in the second quarter to tie the game at 7, and then a 25-yard field goal by Mitch Ewald to go up 10-7 at halftime. Ewald nailed a 22-yarder in the third quarter to give the Warriors a 13-7 lead, but Waubonsie yielded a fourth quarter touchdown to lose by a single point. Harrington finished with 107 rushing yards.
Neuqua enters the game on a hot note, having topped Lake Park this past weekend 21-0 for its first win. That after dropping its first two games, 41-14 to Naperville North in Week 1 and 21-17 to Plainfield Central.
None of that matters much when these teams meet on Friday night at 7:30 on the North Central turf. As always, it should be a war.
