Did anybody see today's Naperville Sun? Who writes these headlines? Is it an 8th grader? I think it was back in April when they had the headline, " The Day The Lawn Wasn't Mowed" after the Day Without An Immigrant marches. I thought it would be hard to top. They did it today. Today's front page had a picture of Michael J. Fox next to Tammy Duckworth (I don't even think she's our district). Duckworth is sitting and you can see both her prosthetic devices. The headline reads: " Michael J. Fox Stumps For Duckworth In Stem Cell Showdown Versus Roskam." This is just cruel and embarassing. That or outright stupidity. I'm going to call and complain to the swthcboard.

As a follow-up, I called and after waiting on hold, I just sent a letter.
Just plain embarrassing.

Just to follow back up...for those who shared my rage and bewilderment.
Jim Lynch, who I believe is the publisher/editor for the paper called on Wednesday and spoke with my wife. He apologized and said it was a poor choice of words and not their intention.
He asked my wife if things were OK otherwise. She told him that the headline caption from the other day (on Halloween costimes) essentially about kids being happy they live in Dist 203 rather than Dist 204 seemed pretty typical, created an "us vs. them" mentality, and it bothered us. I don't know if she told him that we were thinking about cancelling the paper and going with the Herald, but we have discussed it recently.
He seemed concerned about what she said about it, but I guess time will tell if anything changes. Also, I don't know if we'll cancel and go with the Herald or not. We want to get a local paper. The Sun has crappy delivery and makes us feel like "them." However, don't know if the Herald would be much better.
