This summer a new face takes over at the helm of Hill Middle School.
Assistant Principal Allan Davenport will replace Mike Raczak as principal. The Indian Prairie School District 204 school board unanimously approved his appointment Monday.
Davenport has been the assistant principal at Hill for the past three years.
"I've always approached the job, particularly in the last year, as one where I could fill in when Mike retired," Davenport said. "Mike was grooming me for the position and I was very excited when the opportunity opened up."
Raczak is moving over to become the new principal at May Watts Elementary School this summer.
Davenport said the fact that he has been at Hill for the past several years will help the transition into his new position go smoothly.
"I have worked very closely with the Parent Teacher Student Association and know a lot of the Hill families," Davenport said. "I have been building relationships here over the last three years and am looking forward to continuing those."Davenport said in addition to the parents, he is fortunate to be working with such a dedicated staff at Hill.
"I am looking forward to continuing Hill traditions," Davenport said. "We have an outstanding group of teachers that will help make the transition much easier. They will do anything for the kids and that's the type of building I am happy to be a part of."
Davenport said he looks to Raczak as a leader and has learned a great deal working under him.
"He is a great mentor and has left me a big set of shoes to fill," Davenport said. "He has been a great teacher and person."
His first day as principal will be July 1.
In addition to Davenport's appointment, the board approved Karla Zozulia as the new director of support services. Zozulia is currently the administrative assistant for elementary and secondary education it the district office.
She replaces Patt Decker, who will retire June 30.
