sorry , I had heard about the Owen situation -- and I agree - however on this statement "I have learned that when people speak they speak for themselves, NOT for a representation of a particular school. " when one is in a position of power / authority, they have a responsibility to those they represent. Would you not agree. Just because a small group along with you SB member violated your ability to be represented, does mean it's right for someone to consider to speak when they have another role either. These people take oathes to represent their constituencies - obvously they mean nothing. This is how I feel about the way things were handled at Owen. 1. Everyone is entitled to their point of view, wether I agree or not. With that said , Owen "east" had every right to speak up. But when the SB did not allow the Owen "west" to be heard, that was wrong!! 2. I am most angered that the SB did not even discuss what would happen to the Owen community. NOT ONE SCHOOL BOARD PERSON! Part of the Owen community is still feeling "raw " from the last boundary change. So the fact that the SB just made swift changes without even a discussion, shows me that I, Owen "West" was not even represented at all! And yes, I and many others did send emails to the SB about this very issue prior to the announcement of the split. So I am very perturbed when the SB said they did not hear from Owen "west." 3. Just from talking to neighbors/friends prior to the Owen split, most did not think we would even be at MVHS because of our current bus ride to Owen, and never ever thought we would be split! 4. I think that Owen "East" would be traveling far, but so would I and ALOT of other people in this district. 5. As much as I despise the Owen split, I probably could have digested the Owen split much better if the SB had a least talked about how this might impact Owen "West" who already travels far for ES. 4. [/quote] Yep Owen West got as much thought and respect as May Watts did ....." sit down and shut and go where we tell you - we know best - we don't need your input or thoughts "

I also do not like being CALLED a racist but I dare these folks to call me a racist by name. It sickens me that the District and Board are fueling this fire and not one person from the Board or Administration has tried to bring the community together (is this part of the Plan B playbook??). This is exactly why more people have not been willing speak up in public. I just hope that more people have the courage to stop being bullied and take a stand. The Board meeting tommorrow night is a great place to start. I have personnally been absent from these puppet shows for a while, but I can tell you...I feel a speech coming on (and look forward to seeing many of you tommorrow evening). You'll have to sign up early and make sure the speech is no longer than 2 minutes. I hear they're setting up a GONG instead of MM's little beeper.

I think the racist comment was stupid. I think the paper loved it because of it's inflammatory nature.
Having said that, I would like to also say that the motiviations behind NSFOC are numerous. Some truly have environmental issues, some want to walk to school, some want a shorter bus ride, some just want a new school. I believe that some people fall into more than one category.
However, I also believe that within all these ranks lurk those whose motivation is not so alturistic. Maybe it's socioeconomic, maybe it's racist, but to deny that it truly exists does not fool anyone. I would definitely say these people are few and far between, but I do believe they are there.
ETA: My opinion, from my viewpoint from my perch within the district.

Fence- I agree with your comments about being ok with people wanted something being honest about why. Also that we are all blessed and fortunate to have what we do in this world. However, I don't anyone who is pro Eola is saying they want location because they are trying to save the world and our children from the clutches of elitist snobs bent on getting their own way. Yes- there has been some of that sentiment on the blogs, but I think it's more of the imflamatory stuff from the entertainment seeking type bloggers rather than a true sentiment. I'll conceed I'm sure some of the comments coming from Pro BB or NO HS views are rooted in sport as well. Lots of fire fanning out there ont he potluck board. Is the Herald now a blog ? Read the quotes from Chad and Jennifer --

Another page to the ongoing saga. A young family with children would have to be crazy to move to #204. A bad SB that resembles the Three Stooges, mean and nasty residents, lawsuits by people who think they are better then their neighbors. Even if we get BB the damage to the district and the communtiy has been done.

The PTA President from Hill just did..............she may have something from DuPage County showing up on her door step if she doenst tone it down. She also doesnt represent Hill either and anyone with a brain would tell her so.

Nobody feels like the SB is "Hearing" them!
Someone had suggested in a previous post, that if we were to have the SB let us vote on the decision today about placing the 3rd HS at AME it would really prove what peolpe out there really want! I am starting to think that they may be the only true method that the SB would listen to.

There is also the possibility of a mass exodus out of here as well.

We learned a long time ago the SB does what they want, not what is the best for the community and our real needs that are the best for our children.

Their (BB's) lawyers are sighted in and it will be a mortal shot. Think of it like a mugging... the gun is to the head, just give them the damn wallet. At least they're going to leave a rolex for us to wear when they take the money.
