District 204 could owe $2.2M for Brach land
May 13, 2008Recommend
By Jennifer Golz, jgolz@scn1.com The cost of Indian Prairie School District 204’s abandonment of the Brach-Brodie parcel for its third high school will soon be known.
The Brach estate estimates costs incurred in the case exceeded $2.2. million and also are seeking damages in the value of land, according to documents filed today in DuPage County Circuit Court in Wheaton.
Absent from the court appearance were attorneys for the Brodie estate, who have been given two weeks to file their costs and estimated damages.
The district abandoned the eminent domain suit filed for the 55-acre parcel at Commons Drive and 75th Street after a jury deemed the land worth twice what the district had originally budgeted for it.
All sides will return to court June 10, when a hearing date will be set for arguments on the damages being sought.

Sounds like Brach and Brodie are on the same page regarding damages in the land value.

Keep in mind this is the other "shoe" dropping. Brodie has already stated they want $13M all in. Brach wants 2.2 in fees plus damages. It would be interesting to see the filing.
Does anyone really think we're going to walk away only paying $5M? Simon and Helm will eat our lunch. This is pathetic. Maybe Dave H. did an analysis and it will only take 400 years of Girl Scout fees to cover the 10 - 20M BB will get out of us for WALKING AWAY.
ETA - It is mind-boggling to me that people keep their blinders on trusting the school board. Every person living in this district should be OUTRAGED with this botched-up mess.

You know, d204mom, this is the part that I can't comprehend either. No matter where you live or what boundaries your area ended up with, every single taxpayer in this district should be SCREAMING in the streets about the lack of fiscal responsibility shown by this board. This whole mess is about a whole lot more than "my child might have to share a locker next year.....we need a new school now!!!"

It is one of 2 things, all the "other taxpayers" must have plenty of $$$$ to burn that they don't care or they are too stupid to know what is going on; draw your own conclusion....

We are not going to walk away from the lawsuits with legal fees only (let's see we have Brach, Brodie, Brach/Brodie, and NSFOC). On top of that we have our own legal fees that we'll need to pay to our crackerjack legal team (dating way back to Quick Take) as well as the lobbyists costs that we must pay. Don't forget they still plan to open in 2009 which will require expedited building fees. By the time all is said and done this HS could be well over $200M. I don't see how anyone can agree that this is acceptable. At this point many are questioning the need even for a third HS. Let's hope May 23 stops the District cold and then true mediation can begin.

Well, people have been saying they'll be honked if they came back for more money (if they went with BB) but with AME, they won't have to. I wonder if they'll have to come back for more money at AME and if more people's opinions will then change about it, since they are saying that now

I wouldn't call people stupid, just clueless to what is going on. Many of my neighbors with no school age children haven't even heard of what's going on. They simply don't care.
