So I was trying to figure out who Mr. PR was, I keep calling him that and I figured he must have a name. I finally found his name in a PTA newsletter - there was no announcement that I could find on the district website. www.ipsd.org/Uploads/Kendall_May_June08.pdfJason Altenbern was introduced as the district’s Community Relations Director. As his title suggests, Jason will be a liaison between the district and the community. He will send out press releases, keep the schools aware of other projects going on within the district and assist in the formation of the School Family Community Partnership. More on SCF below. IPPC President Jean Donovan and Jason Altenbern discussed School Family Community Partnership (SCF). Altenbern worked with District 203 on a similar program. The 203 program is based on the model developed by Dr. Joyce Epstein, who has written several books on the subject. The National PTA has pushed for more parent involvement for several years. At this point the district is still in the talking phase. Next is the committee phase. A website of interest was given – www.partnershipschools.org

I would guess Mr. Altenbern is responsible for the lion roaring at Cowlishaw and the amazement over the mascott at the last school board meeting. I mean, really, we've known about the mascott and the building design for years now. Remember, the kids who aren't attending MV voted for it?

Is it just me, or does it strike anyone else as odd that the new director of COMMUNITY RELATIONS is such a well-kept secret.

He doesn't seem to have done much yet except attend meetings. He is a very nice person. Maybe someone knows when the district plans on taking advantage of his skills.

Where are they getting the funds to hire all these new admin. people? Last time we went through this (remember the cutting of PE teachers), they decided to start "trimming" at the upper level? Well, whatever "trimming" they did, they have re-hired at least the same if not more. You wait - operating fund referendum will be huge.

I also heard recently that he's bringing/brought in two people from KY - old alliances. Can anyone confirm? Also rumblings that perhaps some positions are not being posted for existing D204 employees. Also not sure if that is true. If it is true, I would think that goes against SOP and would have to be approved by the SB, right?

Teacher positions must be advertised first to the 204 community before posting at large.
