For those of you who just a few short years ago ( '05) watched Mike Bowden lead the WVHS baseball team - while scouts from MLB teams were everywhere with radar guns.... you'll get another chance tomorrow. Mike, who is a top Red Sox prospect, was called upto pitch against the White Sox tomorrow. Might have to scour thru cable/dish stations ( not sure who Fox has on ) - but here's wishing him a great start tomorrow. As a Cubs fan here's wishing him a real good start- ;D www.soxprospects.com/players/bowden-michael.htmMy oldest was friends with his sister who was an '03 grad and also talented - was there on same signing day - she received a scholaship in softball. ( she also played VB @ WVHS)

Thanks Dr. I was wondering what happen to him. He had a pretty good bat too but at that level you cant maintain both skill sets, too demanding. If the pitching didn't work out I was hoping that he would play 1st base which he did when he wasn't on the mound. I'll be watching the ILLINI tonight against MO. Should be a great game too.

A lot of the WV baseball kids are watching together. Kind of a nervous excitement in the air:). I hope he does well. He's worked really hard and deserves a shot . We're very happy for him to get this oppportunity!!!! The wildest part is that he is pitching against players he has grown up idolizing. Awesome.

Mya have been harder to pitch against his first choice of teams to play for - the Cubs ! Not that many top prospects come from the midwest where they can't play baseball all year - quite an accomplishment. And for Waubonsie Valley- Mike Christl -( WV 2003) pitcher- Bradle U. drafted by the Red Sox in 2006 also We may have to become Red Sox fans

Leave it to Ozzie to not grasp any local significance to yesterday:
Bowden did in his debut, even if White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen wasn't overly impressed.
"He just beat a team that's not swinging the bat well," Guillen said. "… First inning he threw all fastballs, and we're a fastball-hitting team … and we can't get him. When you deserve credit, I give you credit. He don't get credit. He didn't impress me. He was good enough to beat the White Sox tonight."
