I was reading an article in the Naperville Sun today about the lack of air conditioning in 204 ES. I live in the Owen attendance area. My kids have been fortunate enough to experience an ES that is air conditioned. I think that having air conditioned ES can make a huge impact in the learning environment. I would fully support for ALL to have this benefit in school.
I wish to acknowledge all the wonderful teachers in 204 who work really hard when ES become uncomfotable due to the heat. Hopefully the cooler weather will arrvie soon for you and provide the relief that is so needed on these very hot days.
What will it take to get ALL ES in 204 air conditioned?

"What will it take to get ALL ES in 204 air conditioned? "
Possibly an intervention by a deity. Many will read any future referendum with a raised eyebrow and wonder how the language of such could be 'interpreted' and possibly not deliver on what they were TOLD about how the money would be put to use.
Sad, but true because of the situation that was 'created'.

IMHO- any future referendums are now in jeopardy due to the actions of our SB and ADmin. I was 100% behind the A/C ost expenditure - however today I don't want to turn a nickel over to this group. If I give it to them for A/C maybe they'll decide to use it for something else - as it appears they have unlimited powers that have no limites legally. My children never had A/C @ Watts - I wish they did, especially after they enclosed the upper level- I feel for the teachers and students as well...

Sad, but true because of the situation that was 'created'. That is my concern as well. By changing the high school site so drastically from what was told to voters before they voted and NOT taking it back to the voters , I fear that the SB has eliminated the chance of ever passing another referendum for a very very long time. By the way, yesterday was so incredibly hot in my son's ES that there is NO WAY anyone could argue it was a learning environment. There is no way any adult, let alone a child, could be productive in that kind of heat. If I had to do it over again, knowing what I know now.. ... NO to a 3rd high school, YES to additions at NV and WV/ and /or alternate locations used more efficiently, and A/C in All ES's. That would have been a much better use of the millions of dollars our district is currently spending.

not going to happen - and you can lump the op referendum in there as well(the SB figured is confident that one wont pass for sure, so now all of a sudden - pooof - we can push it out until 2012). Most parents have 2-3 kids in the system and will be paying a lot more attention for years to come. you can bet on it.
As a follow on to an earlier comment - not only could all of the ES have air conditioning but a lot of other things too. Can you imagine how many computers we could have bought if you take just 2% of the original amount for the 3rd high school ref? If that doesn't make you want to just hurl...........

The one thing that really bugs me about the lack of AC in our ES is that this has been an issue for years! Finally, when we built Owen and Peterson the SB finally put the AC in. Before that, Wheatland was the only other school with AC. We built the 204 administration center and nobody discussed NOT including AC in that building.
Bottom line. This AC issue should have been addressed a long time ago.
