Given the estimate that it will cost approx. $22mil to retrofit the ES schools in the 204 District, and about 300k/yr added operational costs. Should the school district plan for an '08 ref to accomplish this?

Should the school district plan for an '08 ref to accomplish this? Yes! We know that the $22M translates to $50-$55 per year per $300,000 house for ten years. I haven't heard what the approx. $300K translates to and how much that is above and beyond the cost of fans and dehumidifiers that are being used now. How can we quantify the lost instruction time due to air temp and air quality that we have for many students and even some teachers in the current situation?

Mt4 all the more reason to look at starting after Labor Day regardless of what other districts around us are doing. Let's be first in reacting for once. Also, I would like a teacher to inform this board just how many days in September are spent on review from the year before?? Is there anybody (teacher) out there???

I know someone else wanted to present data that offset some of the cost of fans and dehumidifiers etc vs a new system...I think the $300K is the actual cost - not an incremental increase - some of that is likely to be offset.

I'm certain the review thing varies tremendously. Starting after Labor Day still would give us many days with problems in at least Sept, May and June. I thought I heard that a/c gets used as late as October and as early as April. The schools do not have air flow the same as a house and have more days that need temperature and air quality control.

I hope this issue (if on a ballot) would not jeopardize the Operating Ref. in 2009. I suggest putting A/C issue on a ballot after 2009 referendum vote.

I vote now.
22 Million is a lot cheaper than a series of lawsuits over time should something unthinkable and unfortunate happen w/ a child (or children) and everyone was informed of the health risks but did not do anything about it.

How can we quantify the lost instruction time due to air temp and air quality that we have for many students and even some teachers in the current situation? I think between parents, professional educators, and eyewitnesses to what is currently going in within the ES on these hot days...we could quantify this. As I figure it, to me it is costing us more than ~$50 a year per household for 10 yrs. In my own mind, I cant do the political calculus on when tactically is the "best" time to do it. (although I acknowledge that others may be more politically astute with the timing issue). To me, iff it has merit, it has merit. So I say yes, and vote now.
