Once you get beyond the emotional issue of not moving kids in HS, recognize that there is still the overcrowding issue of moving more kids into WVHS next year. Remember, WV will be more crowded than it HAS EVER BEEN - minus the freshman building. Where are all these kids going to fit and how does moving 240 more kids into WV next year alleviate overcrowding? All it does is move it over to WV and for this those 240 kids suffer with the all the issues that come with a HS change?
Casey, this isnt true. WV Green will not be overcrowded for 2009-10, even though its losing the frosh cntr. Nor will it be the most crowded its ever been.
Kathy Birkett gave the following numbers: WV admin is expecting enrollment to be 3100 for 09-10. (this doesnt consider Frontier campus students, ~75). KB also said that 3655 students was peak at WV, the year before NV opened.
Note, estimated max capacity at WV is 3600-3700. (It has more square footage than NV...has a third floor).
The only way the 240 students slated to move to WV would be in a school building that is over the max capacity....is if they stayed at NV and went to the Blue campus.
I hope this addresses anybody's concerns that the group moving into WV Green will be in an over-capacity bldg. (I have a child doing just that in 2009...so I definitely wanted to check this out, too.)
I disagree. Oddly, I received higher numbers from Jim Schmid. Jim Schmid said that Kathy Birkett asked him to reply to my email. Interesting because I never sent an email to Kathy, I asked Dash. So why are the numbers different? Maybe Kathy's numbers account for the kids moving or switching to private school. Or, weren't we waiting for "final" enrollment numbers for this year? Maybe they were lower than first believed?
Also, the NVHS Blue campus enrollment numbers do not account for the Frontier campus either and the number of students from NV at the Frontier is much much higher than 75.
Bottom line, we are not trying to reinvent the wheel here. We are just asking that EVERY effort be made to allow these kids to graduate from the schools they started at. I have younger children who are slated to attend WV. It's not about WV, NV or even MV. It's about doing the right thing by the Class of 2012.
