if it opens in 2009.
"The school will be completed in two phases with the majority of the building and grounds (Phase 1) finished by August of 2009, and Phase 2 completed by February of 2010. Phase 2 includes the completion of the junior/senior wings, the auditorium, the swimming pool, the wrestling room, the music wing, and some athletic fields. We will make the necessary adjustments to the facility and programs to ensure that curricular and extra]curricular student needs are met regarding these unfinished areas."
The above is a direct quote from a document on the IPSD website entitled "Metea Valley Updates". Posted on 10/1/08.

Dance classes will be held on dirt?

What does this mean exactly? If you are a swimmer or diver, you will travel to other schools (most likely WV) to practice and compete. If you want to be in Marching Band, forget it. If you are any part of the music program, where does that leave you? What does "some athletic fields" constitute? What about tennis, soccer, or football?
If all of these sports and activities need to take place at another school (most likely WV) what kind of schedule will they be on? Won't that add a lot of travel time to these students schedules?

Will Chinese II be offered?

Dance classes will be held on dirt? Exactly what I was thinking. I was also wondering about homecoming. What about the bbq's/bonfires, pep rallies, and the dance? How ripped off are these students going to be? From this angle it looks pretty bad.

Jim Schmid is having monthly meetings to answer all of those questions. I believe the schedule of meetings is posted on the MVHS website.

I also wonder how they will be holding gym classes. I believe that a HS needs to provide 7 semester of PE (8th semester is Health). Where will those PE classes be held? Also, a little unknown fact is the sharing of athletic facilities. There's talk of trading off the practice times/locations ex. 2 days MV loads up a bus to NV and the other 3 heads over to WV. What will that do to the existing WV and NV teams? Space is at a premium even now. How do you get 3 to fit into 2? Those of you with swimmers know how hard it is to get pool time even now. Practices are getting earlier in the mornings and later in the evenings. How could you add a whole new team to that mix? Don't forget that there's Fox swimming and Waubonsie Waves that also use the pools - will they just be left out next year? Also, although this may not affect many, did you know that both girls' gymnastics' teams share the NV gym space? That's right, WV girls gymnastics team uses the gym at Neuqua. Will 3 different teams be able to share the NV space? What time would practices be held and how in the world would that work with meets . Although I know very little about the music/theater programs at the HSs I would venture to bet that there's no way MV will have a full experience in the year 2009. Would there be a marching band? Will they have full theater productions? Again, it all comes down to that HS should not be opening in 2009 with freshman/sophomores. It is an incomplete HS experience for those kids! We're paying $150M ++ for this? ?

We're paying $150M ++ for this? ? 7 PE semseters are required - I mentioned this to KB already, quite a while ago - but the responses are they would at least have a fieldhouse by then- 1st semester it is Health for everyone. I guess if no facilities done to hold gym, they could always take it in summer school. The field/stadium situations are going to be a nightmare - again, searched forever yesterday on new high schools openings across the country - and although they wereopening with Freshman only / fresh *& sophs - full schools 9 thru 12 and in California 10-12 ( which is HS) - NONE WERE OPENING UNDER CONSTRUCTION ! There were at last 4 that had been delayed a year from opening because they weren;t ready ( and one where a rare species of waterfowl was found and delayed the opening) - but every one of them had open houses - showing off to the community the COMPLETE facilities that they were so proud of. btw - Grayslake North opened with only freshman a few years ago for those who couldn't find one local

You know it is the parents that are upset at this, not the kids, they can adapt to anything ! ( and may have to) practicing the party line - how's that sound ?

Dance classes will be held on dirt? there's the homecoming theme - Dirty Dancing ! Of course you're assuming there will be a homecoming - with no varsity football team - will that even be on the agenda ? Asking because I don't know and hadn't though about that before. found this: does this seem right ? opened 1997 - first homecoming 1999 ? Of course you're assuming there will be a homecoming - with no varsity football team - will that even be on the agenda ? Asking because I don't know and hadn't though about that before. Actually I asked Kathy B. about that WAY BACK WHEN it was supposed to be at BB and was told "no". Very simply there is no homecoming because there will be no kids leaving and coming back "home". In fact, there wouldn't be a Homecoming until one class graduates and then they would come back. I'm sure that they would have some type of dance though. Don't you know that this will be a great opportunity for the class of 2012 to show what strong leaders they are ? You know, FWIW, I had big issues WAY BACK WHEN it was supposed to be at BB. I brought up a lot of the inequities and unfairness back then to the SB and anyone else who would listen. I am not a "Johnny come-lately" now that this supposedly doesn't affect me since my kids aren't going to MV. Opening with a shell of a school minus the full experience was wrong when it was going at BB and it's wrong now. The only difference is it is now a different set of kids/parents. Guess that makes it ok?

Guess that makes it ok? So yes, it appears 1999 was the first homecoming -- yeah that MV is sure going to be equitable ! Jut another in the line of screw jobs for these kids. Start there in 2012 and be a senior before you have homecoming events and dance - what a deal ! Yeah another chance to become leaders - will be especially great for those with siblings at WVHS when they are going to homecomings. Instead of being able to show their leadership in organizing and running these types of events- or leading varsity programs in competition - they get to show how much they can take... I also am not a Johnny come lately - I was on the sports issue from day 1 -- talking to anyone and everyone who would listen - calling the UEC - calling IHSA to find out where all the authorities to make decisions lie. What about DECA - this was a great organization for futre business/marketing LEADERS, as my oldest went to State and enjoyed that experience

Jim Schmid is having monthly meetings to answer all of those questions. I believe the schedule of meetings is posted on the MVHS website. That's great. If people actually look ahead to that almost a year before the school is set to open. I had no idea about the Homecoming issue. What a loss. The Class of 2012 really takes the brunt of this. They get a Homecoming at WV this year only to lose it next year. That along with having to be bussed to activities at crazy times. How sad that this is the best our SB / Admin could come up with. Sad, sad, sad. I wonder what those "that's how it was when NV opened" people feel about all of this? How would they feel if their kids were the ones that would have to lose so much by leaving WV. I said it before and I'll say it again. The Class of 2012 should NOT be moved. It's wrong to move them and it's wrong to open MV the way they plan to.

How are they going to get buses from MV to WV or NV to use facilities within the 5 minute passing time, and also get them back when that period is over? Are they running multiple buses all day long?
