They will be Mustangs.
For the time being, though, they're still Warriors, Trailblazers, Grizzlies and Bulldogs.
The opening of Metea Valley High School in the fall offers an opportunity to outfit students and sports teams alike with school apparel, and Rich Janor of Janor Sports in Naperville is already hard at work with Metea Valley staff and coaches to help them make sure they look sharp when they make that transition.
Janor Sports, which has long been aligned with the Waubonsie Valley High School athletic boosters, participated in planning meetings with new Metea Valley Principal Jim Schmid and Athletic Director Tom Schweer. Topics of discussion included branding, colors and a prototype for the new letterman jackets.
Metea has chosen black and "athletic" gold as its colors, and its new logo features a mustang reared up on its hind legs with a Metea Valley crest underneath it, similar to that of other Indian Prairie schools.
"The school officials, parents and everyone else involved did their due diligence," Janor said. "... I think branding is something that is extremely important, especially with a new school."
Officials gave the OK to produce and sell school sportswear before Christmas.
"We probably sold anywhere from 250 to 400 pieces before the holiday, with hooded sweatshirts, T-shirts and pullover jackets being some of the more popular items," Janor said.
