District 204 Schools Make State Honor Roll Reported by 204-info@ipsd.org on 2/6/08
The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) and Northern Illinois University (NIU) named seven of Indian Prairie District 204's schools to the Illinois Honor Roll in recognition of continued academic success. The schools are being honored for their accomplishments in making progress toward or maintaining academic excellence.
Academic Excellence Award recipients include Clow, Watts, Patterson, White Eagle, Graham, and Fry Elementary Schools.
In order to be recognized in the Academic Excellence category, 90 percent of students must meet or exceed state standards in reading and math for at least three consecutive years.
District 204's Still Middle School was recognized in the Academic Improvement category for making significant gains in reading and math scores.
"We are fortunate to have dedicated teachers, administrators, and parents who are committed to our students' success," said District 204 Superintendent Stephen Daeschner. "I applaud their continued efforts to help our students achieve academically."
NIU Outreach worked with the ISBE to establish criteria, identify winners of the awards, and administer the Illinois Honor Roll, which is divided into three recognition categories: Spotlight Schools, Academic Excellence, and Academic Improvement.

It would be apples to apples also since these awards include many publci schools now have entrance restricted by test scores even though they are public schools. For High Schools one could easily use ACT - SAT scores. For grade schools the comparison would be hard to do.

Just the Chicago schools have entrance exams, right?
Jones / Payton / Whitney Young / Northside
As a side note - Jones is expanding - Pacific Gardens moved and they are taking over that space.

Don't know that but they were the ones I was thinking of-- they have 3 levels of high schools in Chicago -- one general admittance- and 2 levels above for college prep and specializtion.... I hardly think it fair to compare them to general admittance schools. They should be compared with the Benet's and St' Francis's of the world who test for entrance also. If they accept only the best and brightest in a city of 3 million people, one would hope they'd do well.

'garbage in.. garbage out'... what do we really learn from this??
