March 3, 2009 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE For information, contact: Robin Church, President, Indian Prairie Parents’ Council 630-499-9899
rhmchurch@comcast.net Statement to the Indian Prairie School District 204 Community The Indian Prairie Parents’ Council (IPPC) Executive Board today issued a response to the recent behavior of Indian Prairie School District 204 Board President, Mark Metzger. The Board said that Mark has failed his leadership responsibilities by exhibiting a complete lack of compassion toward a parent in our community whose only goal was to advocate for his child. Mr. Metzger’s disgraceful conduct and vulgar reference demonstrate contempt for parent advocacy, and therefore, he does not embody the spirit of the working relationship between the School Board and the community that the IPPC Executive Board works so tirelessly to foster. The mission of the PTA is to advocate for every child and, as stated in the Illinois PTA Bylaws, to promote the welfare of children and youth in home, school, community, and place of worship. PTA further encourages all of its leaders to develop united efforts that will secure for all children and youth the highest advantages of physical, mental, social and spiritual education. In light of our mission, the Indian Prairie Parents’ Council Executive Board does not condone nor accept Mr. Metzger’s behavior and attitude. “We fully expect any discourse within our community to maintain a civil and respectful tone; anything less is simply unacceptable,” said IPPC Council President Robin Church.

That's great but what are they going to do about it? The IPPC just calls it out and then it goes away ? I want to see them put some teeth behind their response. Poor Marky Mark is sitting an Executive Session meeting right now. Was he informed ahead of time that this was going out?

That is a great statement.
I am just scratching my head at Alka and Cathy defending his actions. It's unthinkable.

Putting the child and parent first - we should all demand no less.

That is a great statement. I am just scratching my head at Alka and Cathy defending his actions. It's unthinkable. The only thing that I can think about is that Cathy mustn't really want to continue on the School Board. If she truly did, I'd think that she'd be smart enough to distance herself from MM. FWIW, I was told that AT is listed as the VP in-waiting for the IASB (the one that MM is President). If that is in fact the truth, it might explain the Tammy Wynette stance (you know, stand by your man). Can anyone verify the info about AT?

I commend Robin and the IPPC Executive board for their stance. I've held Robin in the highest esteem for several years. She truly is a caring advocate for our children.
This is what leadership looks like.
Casey, while I appreciate the desire for more "teeth" - and I'd add a pound of flesh - please realize that a formal statement from the entire IPPC (not just the exec board) requires a vote by all member units, who in turn must have had a vote by their membership. This is unfortunately a very lengthy process.

Director at Large, as per www.iasb.com/calendar/DuPage0209.pdfe.t.a. this is probably best for a separate thread.

PTAs serve their memberships, the IPPC serves the PTAs. Make it work people - follow Robin's lead and take charge! Oh not so fast.....Robin does not get a pass from me for simply sending this out. I am watching to see how this plays out. And for the record I have sent numerous pieces of correspondance and agree that all need to take action. Looking forward to the outcome of executive session today. Prediction - NOTHING WILL CHANGE. I am praying that I am wrong.
