I don't think we need 4 new board members - CV has done a decent job keeping an eye out. Now if by 4 new you mean M2's replacement, then I'm with ya. I'd like to see a Citizens Board really dig into the financials, with quick, unlimited access to details. This is where I think Jerry Huang could help out. Show us where we can cut, how much we can cut, and the implications of making a cut. After we've cut, and if the citizens board recommends it, then I'd entertain a referendum. However, the language I'd require probably couldn't fit on the ballot. No more free passes. The same access that PMA had.

That's the other part- after the BB fiasco - who is ever going to believe what is written on the ballot again. They have created this monster and then fanned the flames by being behind the AMES petition that condescendingly pointed out they knew how to read the ballot and anyone who didn't was stupid. The wording of that petition is going to come back to haunt them for a long long time

The district argued in court that they were well within their rights to lie to the voting public to pass a referendum.
Metzger has angered the PTA folks (if Robin is representative of the majority of how they feel) by calling a parent that was advocating for his child a filthy name. And now he apparently thinks he can remain on the board and not do more damage to the district's relationship with the community.
Who the heck would support an operating ref? Sadly, Brand Bobosky lives in D203 and can't vote on our referendums.
-------------------------- ETA - and like the boy who cried wolf, who the heck is ever going to believe their scare tactics that helped pass the 2007 ref? They argued in court that they were lying just to pass the referendum!

No way am I ever going to vote for another referendum. You think the district would have learned their lessons from the alleged ipod theft. And tell them d**n kids to get off my yard!

the district needs to live within their means just like we are all having to do.
Administrators should pay for part of their health care premium; that is insane that they currently do not. Who pays for it? I hear that the teachers pay for the administrators premium? Is that true?

Simple Question. Some FOIA financial documents show the district headed towards an Budgetary Shortfall. Will you vote to give them more money if an initiative is put on the ballot within the next few years? Absolutely - NO ! Not a dime - after throwing tens of millions of dollars to expedite a semi finished high school on an artificial opening schedule Just one example of how they spend our money what if your "dime" will allow the kids at MV have the equal HS experience you have been talking about? don't get me wrong....I am not a fan of more taxes no matter the cause, I just want for feedback on this one...

First someone would have to show me they are serious about that - today they absolutely aren't Second ,like JB said, they would have to write the perfect ballot- about 50 pages long likely - you know to make sure I knew what I was voting for like some of those really intelligent people who told the rest of us what idiots we were on their AMES petition Thirdly - I'd save the $ and give them that experience at the 2 HS's we have and add capacity to NV and build a 7th MS - keeping the freshman centers/ expand on line learning and fully utilize Frontier Campus- and save the $50M or so not spent yet - if we don't spend an additional $12M or more on top of that amount already to rush open the new school. Fourth - will they invest in replacement of safety issues underground before they give that experience ? um-no. Fifth - they don't need extra $ to give that experience - open in 2010/11 when the school is ready. Open it with varsity sports ( the extra cost of which they have blown 100 times over on nonsense ) - homecoming etc. They could have done this and saved somewhere between $15M - $20M by the time it opens on wasted expedite charges. That spending is indefensible IMHO. So I guess my answer is no Steckdad. They have had their chance- they are going to spend $150M plus to not give that equal experience day 1 - and in the process will increase transportation costs next year and every other year after by a min. of $1M. For the money they spent they could have opened @ BB in 2010/11 - not had any safety issues - the 3 some from the last election could have kept there solemn campaign promise not to change boundaries like those nasty opponents would have ( so they said) - and per BG actually saved transportation costs and not brought the EJE-CN deal into play for another 1/3rd of the districts students. Irresponsible. I'll be standing next to Blankcheck this time around - the party is over. I want my checkbook back. I need it to pay for a whole HS experience now due to these decisions and to pay the 50% increase in State income tax coming any day now.

The way I see it, quite a few of my dimes are being wasted on a rush job of Metea. I would expect that if the district thinks it is wise to spend million$ on expediting the building, then they are wise enough to find operational funds and equilibrium dollars.

I would expect that if the district thinks it is wise to spend million$ on expediting the building, then they are wise enough to find operational funds and equilibrium dollars. exactly - the whole world is cutting back on everything and yet we will pay anything to keep the project opening fall 2009. Obscene amounts of $. It's easy to spend when it's not your money. I'd get that Ferrari I like if I had Bill Gates checkbook. We have 2000 less students than they predicted we'd have for the split shifts and other FUD that was spread. My daughter attended WVHS with 3600 in the green campus- yet I'm supposed to believe that now 3000 for another year will make the doors explode off the school. What a crock. That $15M+ is money down the toliet as it does not buy us one more cent of commodity on the asset side of the ledger -- How's that for an ROI ? The financial come to Jesus day is just around the corner for our district..and someone will look back and say what the heck were they thinking ?

That's why we need some new blood on the board. The current board is too vested in the poor decisions they've made.

The results of yesterdays primary and a gut feel why it wont pass. Of the total refs proposed, 26 of them were for tax increases. As you can see the results, all but 4 were voted down. And of those that were passed were Tower Lakes - add $37/year for garbage/recycling, Forest Park - add $87/year, etc. Of the 20 proposed tax increases for School use statewide only 6 passed with 3 by less than 4%. So bring on the ref so we can shoot it down and move on.
Two refs that passed were for pension reform !! Whoever is voted in as Gov better take notes and get it changed and under control.

Even AC in the elementary schools (which have survived this far without it) won't put the referendum ball over the goal line in this economy and things still have a ways to go on the path of getting worse before it gets better.
