Dear Gregory Families,
It is with a heavy heart that I am writing to share with you that we lost one of our Gregory students this morning after a courageous battle with cancer.
Brianna Sharp completed her seventh grade year as a team 7-1 wolf, but as one of her former 6th grade teachers stated “once a duck always a duck.” Whether a duck or a wolf, she was an important member of our Gregory family and will be deeply missed.
The Sharpe/Siemann family has also asked that I share the following arrangements:
Visitation will be at Freidrich-Jones Funeral Home in Naperville on Tuesday, July 29th from 2-9 PM. with a Funeral Mass on Wednesday, July 29th at 10 AM at St. Raphael Church.
Please keep all those close to the Sharp/Siemann family in your thoughts and prayers through this very sad time.
For many of our students this may be the first time experiencing a loss or it may be a very close and personal loss. In order to help our students with the grieving process, we are offering a drop-in center here at Gregory on Tuesday, July 28th from 9 AM to Noon. The drop-in center will be staffed with district social workers and counselors to provide support for our students and families.
In the days and weeks ahead, students may have questions and concerns. As they work through their feelings and grief, our continued support will be available here at school. Although we cannot predict how any child may react, we can be sensitive and aware, both at home and school, of the common reactions experienced by children who are grieving. We are attaching information about grief and loss in children and adolescents to assist you in supporting your child through this very sad time.
If you feel your child is having difficulty and may benefit from additional support, please feel free to contact our guidance staff: Lisa Hoffman, school social worker, Becca Koehler, guidance counselor or Michelle Cevera, guidance counselor, at 630-428-6300.
Sincerely,
Steve Severson
