Email received from Neuqua:
ATTENTION CLASS of 2012 students transferring to WVHS for the 09-10 school year! We will distribute yearbooks for the transferring students of the class of 2012 who will be attending WVHS in the fall on Saturday, August 8th, from 11:00am-1:00pm and on Monday, August 10th from 5:00pm- 7:00pm in the NVHS main commons. If you cannot attend, please feel free to send a parent or a friend (FRIEND MUST HAVE A NOTE) to verify your permission to take your book. =============================================== I'm hoping that some of our SB members will be there to hand out the yearbooks to those kids. Let them look the class of 2012 "transferees" in the eye and explain how this is the right move!
My daughter has moved on and is embracing her move to Waubonsie. She is excited about the new opportunity. She will make the best of the situation and will thrive at Waubonsie but it still doesn't make it right! I know she'll like it there and it will become her school but you'll never convince me that moving any kid from their school is the right thing to do.
Recognize that this is not sour grapes on my part. I just don't think that the decision to move kids from one HS to another is in any kid's best interest.

It did not serve any kid -- I equally hope some of them have the stones to show up for the kids moving from WVHS to MVHS- especially the athletes. Explain to them how this move is in their best interest for this year and coming years. btw - more people are figuring it all out now that it gets closer- I was informed by a student athlete who was forced to move, that their is a Facebook page entitled Metea Valley is ruining my life. I have not looked at it as I feel bad enough already. Some are still being told by misinformed parents that there will only be no homecoming for this year --instead of the correct timeframe- of not until the class of 2012 are seniors. Equal experience- uh yeah For all of those who constantly comment how resilient kids are-- oh they can take anything....sorry, not all kids feel that way---but then they all do not seem to count.

3600 kids in WVHS and they were all resilient in the past... Now it's a travesty to have 3001 when it's a sibling discussion.
I'd buy the resilient argument if it went both ways, but it conveniently doesn't.

I wonder if any of the previous SB members would have had a student caught up in the transition (class of 2012 expected to change HS) how things would have worked out. I may be wrong but I'd be willing to bet they'd have waited until 2010 to open or else opened with this year with freshmen only. Particularly if the Grand Poohbah had a kid from that class.
IMO, our SB just sticks their collective head in the sand and sticks by their poor decisions. Our District is going from great to good to mediocre to poor. Unfortunately given the age of my kids and the economy being the way it is, I won't be able to move or do a darn thing but to suck it up til my older ones are out of high school.
I worry long term that we'll move to WV, adjust and love it there (like the majority of existing WV parents), and then Waubonsie will close in less than 5 years. Then my third kid will end up back at a crowded Neuqua (I'll be fighting to stay at Waubonsie). I honestly think that will happen. I just don't see our District being able to afford 3 full high schools for very long. We don't have the enrollment and we sure don't have the financial wherewithal to do so. I'm a doomsayer here with regard to our District and I hope that I'm wrong. Time will tell.

Time will tell. the doom and gloom future you portray is basically already known by 1 SB member - but the others wont listen to them-- as for the rest already Bruce and Jeanette have left the board ( their work is done) - with hopefully a few more to follow in 2011. WE are the ones stuck with this mess..... I also believe if they had 2012 kids affected we would not be opening - the class just completely screwed over

More than one had a 2009 kid..... so 2012 is not their problem.
