Superintendent's August Message
Reported by janet_buglio@ipsd.org on 8/7/09
August is here and we are busy preparing for the arrival of more than 29,000 great students. All of our buildings look terrific, including the two new schools joining our 204 family: Metea Valley High School and Fischer Middle School. On August 20 we will be ready for our most important stakeholders -- our students!
Check your mail soon for a District 204 brochure titled "What's New This Year." It contains important information about our school lunch program, transportation, and the adjusted start time for schools on Wednesdays. You will be hearing more from your school about Professional Development Wednesdays, but please remember that beginning August 26, elementary schools will start 10 minutes later and middle and high schools will start 20 minutes later each Wednesday. We appreciate your ongoing support as we implement changes in these areas.
Our district is committed to timely and responsive communication at all levels. We have posted a page on our website called "Where to Go if You Have a Concern." We hope this provides parents with clear guidance for who to contact to discuss school concerns and how quickly they can anticipate a response. The chart is located online.
I recognize the importance of the parent-student partnership and look forward to building successes for each and every one of our students. On behalf of the entire District 204 staff, here's to a great 2009-10 school year.
Sincerely,
Kathy Birkett
