May all be safe, and thank you to those that invited others who don't have a Homecoming at their school this year.

I'm not sure what you are talking about. Are you saying that Metea will not have a homecoming this year or next year?

MV StudentGO is busy planning making preparations for Fall Festival Spirit Week, Spirit Day, and dance. On Saturday, October 3rd, 7pm-10pm, they will have their first official dance. Obviously not a Homecoming dance, as you need alumni to come home, but they are having a Fall Festival dance in its place.
BTW- the Mustangs Soph Team won their first home FB game this past Friday and it was well attended. Poms, cheerleader and Marching Band all performed.

IMO, They should just call it a Homecoming because everyone gets this "WTF?" look on their face when they hear "Fall Festival Spirit Dance"... "What do you mean, no Homecoming?"
Kids grow up looking forward to a Homecoming... So just call it that and let them have it.
It's not too much to ask and it serves every purpose it needs to.

Yes, I understand that Homecoming typically means alumni return. However, since many of these kids were moved from a high school where there would be a "Homecoming", I agree with arch. Let them experience a homecoming and set their own traditions. I am at least happy that they will be doing some sort of acknowledgment and not miss out on their "first dance" as a school.
BTW-Went out to Buffalo Wild Wings on Friday and saw a large group of Metea kids. They were sporting their football jerseys etc. Good for them. They looked like they were having a great time. I loved their jerseys.

All I did was answer the question regarding a dance. If you feel so strongly about the name, I suggest you contact the 2 advisors at MV who are in charge of StudentGO and see if the name can be changed. Regardless of the name, the students will have a Spirit Week and dance which I hope they all participate in and enjoy.

Are these still the people - Student Council Facilitators: Donald Pankuch and Vicki Green ?
Since we're calling it a full an equitable HS experience already, this tiny name tweak seems like it should be a slam dunk.

Do you really think the kids care there is no dance called Homecoming? The name Homecoming is for the alums, not the undergrads. Since there are no alumns at MV, what's the big deal? My daughter could have cared a less that there were college freshman coming back to attend her dance at NV. All the kids care about is that there is a dance to attend. Do any of you even remember the theme of your homecoming dances? Most kids just want to have fun and the name/meaning is incidental.

Not sure if the kids do really care but I think that if the District ran a survey ( ) they'd probably find out the kids would prefer it called Homecoming. I agree with Arch. Call it Homecoming not some Fall Festival dance. I can just see mom and daughter shopping at Macy's "Mom, I need a Fall Festival dress!" That just doesn't seem to work. But in the grand realm of things, does it really matter?

The comments on the bus friday when some kids were talking about attending NV's as guests are what I was basing this post on. So, basically, you are calling the kids Petty. It's THEIR school year, not YOURS. It seems like the adults are more bent on making sure it's called anything EXCEPT a Homecoming Dance... and the kids really don't understand nor care about the technicality differences... but know that they simply are 'not having one' that they look forward to as they approach the HS years.

Well, you can't please everyone. I'm sure if the district/adults made it a Homecoming dance, there would be many eyes rolling because it really is not a Homecoming dance, is it?
Do you call the dance Homecoming just for the 'tradition' of it being that at other schools or do you make it 'special" for those kids in the new school? You make it sound like the 'Fall Festival" dance is some punishment for the kids.
What was it called many moons ago when NV didn't have homecoming for two years?

"I'm sure if the district/adults made it a..."
I think we just found the problem...
=====
This is starting to sound a lot like calling a Halloween Party a "Fall Party".
When they surveyed *all* the kids @ MV, which name was picked by majority? That would seem to be the simplest way to decide it.
