1/ Motion to approve the hire of our former referendum strategist failed. Thankfully as this group helped irrevocably split this district the last time around- they are a firm that works to the passage of referendums, their methods are no secret if you read their website. Voting against them were: Chris - Dawn and Alka -- with Curt/Susan/Cathy voting for and M2 MIA. Really how could anyone vote to hire them and employ those methods again ?
2/ There was also a vote on the $5M in debt certificates I mentioned a week or so ago we were not told about - indeed to be used to bridge the gap of overspending on MVHS.
--by adding sales proceeds of BB $6.4M into the MV budget - along with expedite fees and the soon to be determined ( November ? ) -BB court and attorney fees --
It appears we may have to start using Ops funds to pay for the rest of MVHS. For all those who said that would never occur - be ready. If that land doesn't sell in the next 5 yeas ( and it has not sold in the last 100 so what makes anyone think it will now ? ) - then what do we do in 2014 when the $5M comes due -- along with so much other stuff ? Why not get another appraisal and actually know what the heck that spit of land is actually worth - our track record as appraisers stinks.
How will be make payroll in the years to come if a referendum fails and we have moved our liabilities out to the future and start using the ops funds we have now for other things ? It's a shell game that is getting more and more out of hand.
and another note I received said that KB recently has told a group that got together for an PA meeting that the grades 4-7 are the largest - graduating class is small and K thru 3 are much smaller than 4-7 with K being the lowest....but blames the economy. 3rd is smaller than 4th, 2nd smaller than 3rd, 1st smaller than 2nd and K the smallest. That means the # of kids drop by population started 8-9 years ago.
Changing demographics happen - trying to justify an unneeded 3rd HS using the economy is weak. The attendance drop started long before the economy tanked.
