Everyone knows the attendance numbers can be pulled off the district website but I jsut want to point out a few things of what we really got for our $150M+ new high school.....
Remember the referendum was sold on the severe overcrowding and the fact that this new HS would alleviate that overcrowding. Here's what we have today:
NV
class of 2012 went from 1243 to 1041 students (drop of 202 students). Wow! I doubt there's too many NV students or staff that notice that kind of number drop at the main campus . The NV parents that were willing to throw my child under the bus to make their Neuqua less crowded....was it worth it? You've ruined a lot of kids' (Class of 2012 both at NV and WV) high school experience to alleviate the overcrowding like that? Neuqua is still severely overcrowded and always will be until the SB recognizes that additional boundary changes need to happen. That and they quit granting the almost 40 kids exceptions (that's 16% of that group of kids that were supposed to move from NV to WV)Sorry but I don't get it.
WV
Class of 2012 went from 1071 to 649 (drop of 422 students). Admittedly, that is a much more noticeable number but keep in mind Waubonsie is severely overcrowded due to the loss of the freshman campus (3rd period lunch, freshmen eating in the rotunda, etc.). More students shoved into Waubonsie than ever before. The shift of kids didn't do much to help that class of 2012.
Bottom-line is the class of 2012 got screwed all the way around. My kid had her HS experience disrupted as did many others and it didn't need to happen. Truth be told, I wish the SB would sit down with these kids from 2012 and talk with them. Not some BS director led thing where they lead the kids to tell them what they want to hear but an honest to goodness open communication with them to hear what they are really saying. My child has made the best of the situation and is doing ok with the switch but I can assure you that is NOT the case with most of the kids. For every kid that is ok with the move there are at least 10 that are not. My child tells me stories all the time about the number of kids that are miserable with the switch. Kids that have not been able to make friends and fit in at their new school, kids that are being bullied at their "new" school, kids that would do anything to go back to their former school, etc.
Recognize that these are not just former NV kids but former WV kids too. Many of the WV kids are unhappy with their situation too - they miss their WV friends, miss the tradition of the school, etc. IMO, our SB F*d up big time by moving that class of 2012. Trust that it has not been an easy perfect transition for anyone. MV should have started with freshmen only.
Who else can add?
