Just pulled this off the front page of the Tribune's website. Haven't seen it on the Naperville Sun website yet....
Naperville high school fight leads to charges
By Joseph Sjostrom Tribune staff reporter Published February 9, 2007, 5:02 PM CST
A 16-year-old Naperville North High School student has been arrested and charged with aggravated battery, accused of striking a police officer who was attempting to break up a fight between the student and another on Thursday morning, according to Naperville police.
The two students, both females, were fighting in the school's small cafeteria at about 8:30 a.m. A Naperville police officer stationed at the school stepped in to stop the fight, said Naperville police Lt. Dave Hoffman. The 16-year-old allegedly struck the officer when he intervened, Hoffman said.
Neither of the students nor the officer was injured in the incident, he said.
The arrested student's identity was not released because she is a juvenile. Hoffman said the aggravated battery charge applies to the incident because a police officer allegedly was struck.

You hit a cop, you're lucky charges are all you got.
Could've gotten a lead deposit instead.

It's unclear in the article if the 'hitting' was a deliberate blow to the officer or if they just got hit in the frey of the other two hitting each other and the physical intervention placed him in between the flailing arms that were already in motion.
There is a slight difference of 'intent' when it comes to the officer themselves being struck.

As a Law officer....I find that remark a bit offensive.(OK Not really , but that is a bad stereotype of Police Officers)..There is no way there would be any "lead poisoning", unless there was weaponry displayed by one of the offending parties, which would in of itself be a bigger story. PS...NO Doughnut jokes either!!!!!

Naperville North student arrested after cafeteria fight By Melissa Jenco Daily Herald Staff Writer Posted Saturday, February 10, 2007
A Naperville North student has been arrested for aggravated battery against the high school’s police resource officer.
The incident occurred when two 16-year-old female students got into a fight about 8:30 a.m. Thursday in the school’s small cafeteria. The resource officer stepped in to break it up.
“She wouldn’t stop fighting, and the resource officer intervened and was battered in the process,” Naperville police Lt. David Hoffman said.
Hoffman said he did not believe the officer or the girls involved sustained any injuries.
The incident is classified as “aggravated” battery because it involved a police officer.
The case will be handled by the juvenile court system.
Principal Ross Truemper said he could not comment specifically about Thursday’s altercation but fighting typically is punished with a suspension.
In November, North had a school-wide discussion about problems with fights, profanity, and disrespect toward teachers. At the time, the number of fights had nearly doubled from the same period the year before.
Since those talks, Truemper said he’s proud of the way his students have responded. He’s seen many of the negative behaviors disappear, and there have been only a few incidents in the past three months.
“Remember they’re still growing emotionally and still lose control of emotions,” he said. “And we’re working hard on minimizing that but we’ll never get to a situation where there will never, ever be a physical altercation in any school.”

PS...NO Doughnut jokes either!!!!! Didn't mean to offend, rather was trying to highlight the gravity of assaulting an officer. I have little sympathy for anyone who takes a swing at law enforcement, whether its a weapon or a fist. BTW, what's a "resource officer"?

A resource officer is a regular officer who has been assigned to the HS as his/her beat.
