The students at Waubonsie Valley High School have a soft spot for the residents at Aurora Supportive Living Facility.
The school adopted the residence center last fall and throughout the year have provided residents with everything from theater tickets to companionship. Members of the choir also held a concert on St. Patrick's Day, game day on Easter Sunday and a luncheon.
"The students have made planters for us, played games, it is such a nice boost," said Susan Polito, activities director at Aurora Supported Living Facility.
As a thank you the residents made 75 Easter baskets for the students, which included stuffed bunnies and snacks.
"We really wish we could do more as a thank you," Polito said.
Facility resident Mary Sorkis said the partnership has been beneficial.
"We do appreciate it," Sorkis said. "We try to keep ourselves busy in one way or another and the students are just wonderful."
Resident Marilyn Casaletto agreed.
"It is so heart-warming," Casaletto said. "The students are always polite and ready to help."
Waubonsie Principal Jim Schmid said the partnership is great experience for the students.
"It is neat the kids can connect with a service opportunity like this," Schmid said.
Student council and members of DECA were among some of the school organizations involved in the partnership.
