The shame is that these are the two best teams in state and had to play in a Sectional final. The game went into the shootout to determine the winner. storyCongrats WVHS. Now go win state.

Now go win state. yep together 48 - 4 -1 26 - 0 - 1 WV and 22 - 4 - 0 NV - and the draw for sectionals leaves one behind. WV now has to guard against a let down after the emotion of playing your rival -- there's work to be done and let's hope for 204 they can do it. One thing I'd like to see - I remember when my oldest was at Hill - 8th grade ( BB and VB ) and WVHS girls BB team went to state - they had busses to take other 204 players to cheer -- Did they do this when NV girls went the 2 years in BB ? My kids were either out of high school or not yet old enough in MS for me to know -- If not, it would be a great idea and promote 204 as a district -- make busses available for any other 204 soccer players who would like to go.... just a thought

The state finals are at North Central so probably no need for busses.
I am worried too about a let down.

No busses are needed to follow the Warriors the rest of the way in the playoffs! The next game for WV is a supersectional game at Illinois-Benedictine on Monday @ 4:30 ( www.ihsa.org/scores/7y28sog2.htm ) If they win, the remainining playoff games are at North Central College - quaterfinals are Friday June 1 - WV would play @ 6PM ( www.ihsa.org/scores/7j01sog2.htm ), and semis and finals are Saturday June 2 ( www.ihsa.org/scores/7j02sog2.htm ). Hopefully WV will have a big turnout of supporters at all their games.

You hit the nail on the head. The way the teams are seeded is very political. Downstate Illinois wants to ensure that they have representation in the final rounds, so they would not support a change to the current playoff structure. It's too bad about NV, but go Waubonsie go!

Sounds like one terrific match. Yet to emphasize the rivalry nature, the game did feature two red cards (one each team) after an "emotional, physical exchange" per the newspaper story. I am not so sure all 204 soccer players will be pulling for WVHS to come back with the title

I am not so sure all 204 soccer players will be pulling for WVHS to come back with the title I would chalk a lot of that up to ' heat of the moment' stuff. I am sure this was a physical game.....many of these kids play against each other all year round - in fact many are club teammates -- so I would think the majority would be pulling for each other.
